Why the little jobs count

Reality Wanted has thousands of reality tv jobs on offer on any given day and while your dream job might be be on The Amazing Race or even having your own Reality Show, there is a huge leap from sitting at home wishing it might happen to actually making it a “reality”, pardon the pun.

Think Omarosa, the villain made famous by Donald Trump’s The Apprentice and who has so far leveraged a ten year plus career from it, including multiple well paid stints on Fear Factor and who became such a well known name in reality TV she dominated two appearances on Celebrity Apprentice, something some of the other celebs could not quite accept as her right to be on the celeb portion of the show that made her name.

But don’t think Omarosa just came out of nowhere…..she no doubt had a long list of smaller appearances that led to that one big job with Mark Burnett’s production company that then catapulted her into the reality stratosphere. Did you know that Brad Pitt once did extra work? We all have to start somewhere and it’s the little jobs that get you to the bigger ones.

When you have a meeting with a producer and work your way up the casting rung, you meet people casting multiple shows and sometimes, you might not be right for one show, but they may remember you for another. And there’s also the “Ross” effect……doing cameos on shows like Chelsea Handler’s show until you get your own show.  You just can’t go from unknown to known unless you have a sex tape or fifteen minutes of fame with a Youtube video gone viral and I really don;t recommend either of those. You have to work and you have to keep working, even if some of those jobs are unpaid or small cameos in smaller shows - they are all leverage. Check out people who are currently on other reality shows on IMDB and you will see smaller appearances on other shows.

Building your reel, meeting people, getting your name out there, showing people who you are, what you can do and how easy you are to work with are all steps towards building a name and reputation for yourself. Make a small appearance on Beverly Hills Pawn and you will be working for Asylum Entertainment, one of the biggest production companies making multiple reality shows right now.

This business is all about building your brand, making a name and the most important element - crating contacts. So check out all of the shows casting and perhaps rethink what might you might be able to contribute to something that might just introduce you to the person who will actually give you your own show or cast you on your dream show.
