The Top 8 of SYTYCD Season 10

by Gina Scarpa

Whoever survives this week of So You Think You Can Dance will move on to the final round, when America will solely decide the winners of Season 10. The stakes are high and, after a deliciously creepy routine choreographed by Mia Michaels, the bottom four are named. It's no surprise to see Jenna and Tucker there, as they're no stranger to being in danger (hey, that rhymed!) but Hayley and Fik-Shun joined them as well.

Once the four solos were performed, it was time to get to the routines. Not only were the Top 8 paired with all-stars this week but for the first time, the all-stars choreographed the routines as well! Let's take a look at some of the standout routines of the night:

5. Tucker Knox with All-Star Courtney: Jazz
For Courtney's debut as a choreographer on the show, she chose to do a piece about Romeo and Juliet. Besides the fact that they danced it beautifully, they really connected with one another as well. We all know Tucker's story but two years ago, Courtney was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The inspirational factor was enough to bring the judges to their feet and caused Mary Murphy to tear up a bit. I couldn't help but cry a little too!

4. Jasmine Harper with All-Star tWitch: Hip-Hop
Though I liked Jasmine's wild west hip hop routine better, tWitch does a great job with his superhero piece. It's definitely intimidating for Jasmine to be paired with him, as he is one of the most successful commercial dancers in the country but she always rises to the occasion. Is there no style Jasmine can't do?

3. Paul Karmiryan with All-Star Comfort: Hip-Hop
Paul is quite popular with the ladies and showing off his swag this week definitely didn't hurt him. Who knew he had moves like that? Mary Murphy definitely didn't and she couldn't help but scream out how impressed she was. Comfort's routine, about two graffiti artists, was entertaining from start to finish - a much needed break from all the dramatic routines throughout the night.

2. Amy Yakima with All-Star Travis: Contemporary
There surely will be people who think this deserves the top spot of the night. After all, it's Travis Wall!! He is an absolutely amazing choreographer and dancer, and he brings things out of people like very few can. Amy danced more maturely than we've seen her and he... well, he's flawless. Like Nigel said, he's going to achieve things beyond his wildest dreams and we'll all be there to watch it happen.

1. Jenna Johnson with All-Star Mark: Jazz
I'm just going to say it. Mark Kanemura is AMAZING! He was something special during his season of SYTYCD but becoming one of Lady Gaga's go to dancers has elevated him to a whole new level. He and Jenna danced their tails off in a odd but amazing jazz routine. It's too bad he's not on the tour. That routine would be worth the price of admission alone!

At the end of the night, Nigel bids farewell to former partners Tucker and Jenna, who have become best friends on the show. The finale is just around the corner, who are you rooting for?
