Adrienne Gang of Below Deck

by Gina Scarpa

Adrienne Gang's focused and driven personality hasn't exactly sat well with her fellow crew members this season on Bravo's Below Deck. The first-time chief stew has a lot of experience in the industry, but learned quite a bit throughout this season as she struggles to manage Kat Held and Samantha Orme. We chatted with her today about the pressures aboard the Honor, and get a closer look at her experiences thus far on Below Deck.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you love most about the yachting industry and what you do?
A. Adrienne: I think that, a lot of the time, the pros outweigh the cons. You work long hours, we're crazy and hectic, the guests are nuts, the crew is full of drama but at the end the day, we're still in an amazing place. Those moments are the moments we live for as yachties. We're not living for 14 hours of ironing sheets. We see places that people don't have the opportunity to see, or can't afford to see! That's what makes it's worth it... and the people. Some of the best friends I have on the planet, I've met through yachting.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Being a chief stew is pressure enough and your first time doing this was on a nationally televised show! How did that add to your stress?
A. Adrienne: Well, I mean, I've worked in yachting for almost 10 years. I've been doing it for quite a long time. I think it was a natural progression that I would end up there. I'm a chef normally but taking on the role of chief stew is something I always aspired to do. I was excited to do it, but less excited about it at the end. At the end of the day, it's about giving your best effort. There are going to be people that are going to and already have chastised my forts. Who is going to be perfect from the get go?

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You're catching some heat for your management style on the show but I just keep wondering why people seem okay with Sam's behavior thus far.
A. Adrienne: You know, I think from the perspective of younger people, Sam is a cool girl. She's the kind of person you want to sit down and have a beer with. It's hard for people to identify with me. My personality is so much more focused and driven. Yeah you might wanna have a beer with her but do you want her managing your multi-million dollar assets?

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you watch the show back and see what your fellow crew members have to say about you, are these things that you knew they felt or is it a surprise as you watch it back?
A. Adrienne: No... it's not really a surprise. I knew that Aleks wasn't supportive of me during that process until towards the end. I think that he was looking at it like everyone else. Now, I think he's starting to see a little more of that background and I'm hoping some of my cohorts watch it now and understand why I was so stressed out. It doesn't really surprise me. I hope they see exactly what I'm up against.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: On tonight's episode, you know the guest and his friends. Can you tell us a little bit about what we're going to see?
A. Adrienne: Sure, I've known him for years and I love him. They're great people who are super fun but I think they outdid themselves a little on this trip. I know his personality so I know how to deal with him and kinda let things roll off my back. Because the rest of the crew doesn't know them very well, they took it a little too seriously, kinda like I do with everything else. I find that really funny. Kat outdoes herself a little bit on this trip too which is gonna get interesting, and everyone else is working their tail off.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: After being a chief stew and doing Below Deck, what did you learn about yourself, career wise?
A. Adrienne: I think through that process, I learned quite a lot about myself. It's a matter of being able to juggle a lot of things. Being a chef is still where my passion lies and I'll continue to do that. I think that I gave it a shot and I'd be happy to do it again but knowing where my comfort zone is, I'll probably stick with being a chef.
