Eddie Lucas of Bravo's Below Deck

When the luxury yacht Honor is being chartered, deckhand Eddie Lucas takes his job quite seriously.  When it docks, though, he much prefers relaxing with friends and leaving the stress of work behind.  Unfortunately for Eddie, his crewmates on Bravo's Below Deck don't always feel the same way, which will prove to be challenging at times for him.  Despite having a privileged upbringing, he has no problem catering to others, though working in the luxury yacht industry isn't exactly his end goal.  We talked to him about all these things and more in our exclusive interview with him about Below Deck.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Being originally from the east coast, is there a difference between yachting there and on the west coast?

A. Eddie: Well, I don't think there's too much of a difference. Some places on the west coast, that I'm used to, there are larger boats. Boats on the east coast is more pleasure cruises. You see more sailboats than motor yachts, but there isn't too much of a difference.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What type of skill set do you need to work as a deckhand aboard a yacht?

A. Eddie: I'd say the skills you need on a yacht, or really any boat... you need good rope handling skills, problems solving skills and, on our boat, attention to detail was really important. We needed to keep the guests happy and our job was focused on cleaning the boat. The show is good because it shows the inner workings. I hope it shows more of what it takes to run a yacht.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Was there any hesitation on your part when Bravo approached you to do Below Deck?

A. Eddie: Oh, of course, there's always a big hesitation when taking an adventure like this. Now, I'm looking back and it was a great experience. Working with Aleks, Sam, CJ, Dave, Ben... it was great and I had a great time doing it. I'd probably do it again if I had the chance. I was approached with, "Do you wanna be on reality television?" and I was like, "Oohhhh..." I'm kind of a private guy, but I didn't have too much going on so I thought, "Why not?"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Which Honor crew member do you get along best with?

A. Eddie: I definitely think I got along best with Dave. We spent the most amount of time together. We worked side by side and we bunked together. He's really laid back, super nice, and funny. We had a really good time together, but I got along with a lot of people on the boat. Ben was hilarious, I loved taking a little break and hanging out with him for a little bit. Aleks is a really good mentor and taught me a lot about the yachting industry. CJ's crazy but fantastic.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: And who would you never want as your supervisor?

A. Eddie: I definitely wouldn't want Adrienne as my supervisor. She was way too serious! You saw in the first episode how she chastised Sam. That's poor leadership style. I understand that she has a really tough job and is under pressure. I give her respect for what she's doing but I think she could've gone about it in a different way.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Charter guests have high expectations, and understandably so. What's the weirdest request you've ever had from a guest?

A. Eddie: Probably... well, there's a lot of weird ones coming up! This one with Johnny, in the premiere, trying to get me to drink on the charter was crazy but it wasn't really a request. It was just kind of a pain. I was like, "I can't, no, I can't." I don't think he realized the responsibilities I was under. There's one coming up with a charter guest that is very, very strange that I've never encountered before! It's gonna be a big one, but I can't reveal too much.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Of course, you take things seriously when you're working but what are you like when you dock?

A. Eddie: I really love, after work, to get off the boat, unwind, relax, and not stress. When I'm off the boat, I try not to worry about work and what's going on on the boat. That definitely kind of has its problems because a lot of people on the boat wanna argue and bring up things that happened while on charter. I didn't like that when it happened. I wanna enjoy my time, have some drinks, cut loose, maybe dance if I'm feeling a little funky, and have a good time.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's your goal, career wise?

A. Eddie: Career wise, I definitely wanna stay in the maritime industry. Do I wanna work in the luxury yachting side? Not necessarily. It was fun, but I think I'd rather do something that wasn't catering so much to guests' every desire. I think I'd rather maybe do deliveries, workboats, I love to work with my hands... the yachting industry is still a possibility but I think I'd rather be on a smaller boat, sailboats would be really nice.
