Trevin Hunte on The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

What a journey Trevin Hunte has had in his young 18 years of life. He had a middle school teacher tell him he would never succeed in music and now he just finished in the Top 4 on Season 3 of The Voice. Like the coaches all said, this is just a stepping stone for these singers and we should expect to see much more from Trevin Hunte. Today he talked with RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about the love among all the singers, what's next for him, working with Cee Lo Green and much more.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Hearing your voice, I think a lot of people forget that you are only 18 years old. What has it been like going through this whole experience at such a young age?
A. Trevin: It's definitely been a learning experience for me. I definitely learned me as a person and me as an artist throughout this whole entire competition. For me, being only 18 I feel I have my whole life ahead of me to correct the things that I need to work on or better the things that I lack.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Looking back on your performance this week, is there anything you would have done differently?
A. Trevin: I have no regrets to be honest with you. I think everything happens for a reason. I feel like it definitely wasn't my best performance for me vocally, but I had fun this whole entire trip and I can't regret anything that I have done. I feel if I do regret it, it wouldn't be who I am as a person. I did the best I could do.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: On the performance show this week we saw you go home for a visit. What was that like for you and seeing all the support from the fans and getting a chance to speak at your old middle school?
A. Trevin: It was definitely the best visit in my whole entire life. I think it was actually one of the best days too. I got the opportunity to go back to my family, which I hadn't seen in a couple months. To have my family at home together for one cause and that cause being me coming back home was definitely a great feeling. Going to the middle school, walking the halls where I was told I wouldn't become anything was definitely a great experience for me. It brought me back and showed me how much I have grown from that time up until now. It was definitely a great experience to stand there and talk to the kids and try to inspire them.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Cee Lo was your coach this season. What was it like working with him?
A. Trevin: Working with Cee Lo was definitely one of the best experiences as well. He is very loyal and very genuine and he has my best interest and I felt like he hasn't steered me in the wrong direction yet and I am definitely happy that I chose Cee Lo and got the experience to be in his presence and take all that advice that he has given me.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: There seems to be a lot of love for each other among the singers, which we saw last night between you and Nicholas. What was the relationship like among all the singers?
A. Trevin: To be honest, I felt like I was in a family. When I first came to this competition, you can ask anyone, I did not speak to no one because I was nervous and worried about what people would think of me, just like me being in high school or middle school. I just began to open up to people. Nicholas, Avery, Adrianna, Dez. There were a whole bunch of them that made me feel comfortable. Throughout the competition, I have just grown to love each and every one of them that were on the show. The ones that didn't even get the opportunity to be shown and the ones that were in the Top 20 with me. It was definitely a great experience to be around them.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What was your favorite moment this season?
A. Trevin: The best performance for me was "And I Am Telling You." Mainly because I got the chance to show people that my confidence had boosted and show them that I am here to stay. It was definitely a great performance for me and it felt great after it. The best off-camera experience was definitely going out to dinner with Cee Lo and him talking to me and the group and it inspired us to push harder and fight stronger.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: With only three singers left now, does anyone stand out to you as a possible winner?
A. Trevin: Of course! Definitely Nicholas David, that's my boy. Honestly, I feel like he is most deserving of winning The Voice. I look up to him and how he behaves with his kids and his wife and he is a great husband and a great father. He is a great big brother to me and I want to see him win. Take this one home for Team Cee Lo.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: I know it hasn't been that long since you were eliminated, but what's next for you? Christina offered to take you on the road.
A. Trevin: (laughs) What's next for me is to just work hard on my music. I really want a Grammy and I'm not going to stop until I get one. I'm definitely going to work hard and reach my goals. I set goals for myself every week. My goal for this week is to just relax and take some time for me. Kind of come back to who I was before the show and after that I'm going to work extra hard. Write songs and try and reach out to people and see what happens and see how it goes for me.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: I think it will go great for you and you will have a Grammy in your future. You have a lot of fans out there supporting you. Anything you want to say to them reading this article?
A. Trevin: I thank and love each and every one of my fans. I feel like they have been the biggest supporters and they have shown me so much love throughout the entire process. There were people that talked about me and didn't believe in me, but they actually made me feel better about myself, so I definitely love and thank them and appreciate everything they have done for me.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Anything to add?
A. Trevin: To be honest, I really do thank you for taking the time out to interview me. I actually feel better because I was kind of sad. I actually feel better with you telling me that I did a great job. I honestly feel great and I thank you so much.
