The Amazing Race 21: Finale Recap

Josh and Brent of The Amazing Race 21

In Spain, the 11th leg of The Amazing Race kicks off and teams travel by train from Barcelona to Loire Valley, France. On the way there, it becomes blatantly obvious that the other teams were working together to get Josh and Brent out of the race. And by blatantly obvious, I mean they overhear them talking about them. Awkward.

In France, teams have to grab eight crates, throw them in their car, and head to Château de Villandry, find a stone dog, and get their next clue. I could've done without the commercial for Ford where kicking the bumper opens the trunk automatically and yet, I found myself wanting one. On the way there, the twins work hard to lose the Beekmans (unsuccessfully) but Josh shows them all that he's not to be underestimated with his ability to speak French and willingness to run on his injured ankle.

Teams must find Da Vinci's final resting place, Château D'Amboise, next but the twins have to complete a Speed Bump first. It seems easy enough - lace a women into an 18th century corset, then they can head on their way. At the château, teams encounter a Detour, with the choices being Chow or Plow. In Chow, teams have to make a meal for a pack of hungry hunting hounds and in Plow, teams must use a traditional plow, attached to a horse, in a field.

Trey and Lexi finish Plow first, with Jaymes and James right behind them, and head to La Cave des Roches next. Josh and Brent finish Plow, leaving the Natalie and Nadiya in last. At the Road Block, one member must search for distinct types of mushrooms in a dark maze of tunnels. It is an extremely difficult task, but Lexi is able to finish first and they take off for the pit stop at Château de Chenonceau, but get a little lost on their way. Teams arrive in the following order:

1. Jaymes and James (each win a Ford Escape)

2. Trey and Lexi

3. Josh and Brent

4. Natalie and Nadiya

Though the twins were able to finish the Road Block first, they got lost on their way to the Detour and the Beekmans were able to edge them out.

For the final leg, teams fly to New York City and head to Coney Island, but the clue is difficult to find on a poster of Houdini. Trey and Lexi spot it first and go to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Josh and Brent are close behind. At the navy yard, one team member performs a Road Block, wearing a straightjacket, hanging from a crane 15 stories up, and must escape in order to move on. Despite being afraid of heights, Trey makes quick work of it, and the pair continues to dominate, heading next to Lombardi's Pizzeria. Teams must memorize 3 orders and deliver 10 pizzas in order to get their next clue from the owner.

Once again, Trey and Lexi finish first while Josh and Brent deliver the wrong pizzas, giving Jaymes and James the chance to catch up. Next, it's off to the United Nations where one team member has to identify "hello" in the nine different languages they heard at the pit stops throughout the race. Ooh, good one, Amazing Race - that is a tough one..  It takes close to three hours before anyone finishes and the first person to get it done is Josh! James finished second, followed by Lexi.

The finish line is located at Gotham Hall, and the winners of this season of The Amazing Race are... JOSH AND BRENT!  Jaymes and James finish second, with Trey and Lexi taking third.  Who were you rooting for?  Let us know in the comments below.
