The Real Housewives Of Atlanta Season 5

by Jessica Blackwell

This is the first episode where we really got to know Porsha, who claims she has a perfect life. Apparently she has had some trouble in the baby making department, revealing that she had a miscarriage six months ago that was caused by uterine fibroids. That's so sad!  She and Kordell headed to her gynecologist to find out if they can start making some babies. Porsha really wants to have twins to lessen her number of pregnancies so she doesn't damage her body too much, so she started looking into methods to increase her chances, like eating a ton of sweet potatoes. Since the doctor gave her the go ahead, she's clear to stock up on yams (??) to start trying to create multiples. I'm sure she and her husband will make great parents.

In addition to trying to start a family, Porsha is working on some publicity for her family charity so she invited NeNe and Cynthia to shoot a public service announcement for the foundation. Since she convincingly stressed that the foundation's work is so important that is feeds the hungry 265 days a year, not just on Thanksgiving (yes she really said that), they agreed. Even though she clearly doesn't know how many days are in a year, her heart is in the right place so I can't rag on her too much for her little faux pas. NeNe was hilarious though, exclaiming in her interview "where the hell that b**** live at" LOL!!.

Kenya and Phaedra went on a double date with their respective men, and I think we got to see a bit of foreshadowing into the drama between Apollo and Kenya that the series preview eludes to. Kenya couldn't stop raving about Apollo's good looks, comparing him to Tyson Beckford, doting over his muscles, and just plain acting flirty in general. Phaedra said in her interview that Kenya may need to pump her brakes because she was breaking some of the cardinal rules of friendship, and she certainly was! Between explaining loudly about how the seat belt on the bumper cars wouldn't fit over her large breasts, and openly sweating Phaedra's man, it was a ridiculous scene. I just wonder where Walter falls in all of this? Does he stick around while Kenya tries to steal Phaedra's man? I can't wait for the rest of this plot to unfold.

NeNe and Cynthia decided to turn their yearly girls' trip into a couples trip. So they invited their men, Phaedra &Apollo, Kim &Kroy, and Kandi &Todd to Anguilla. Since Kim was very pregnant, she gave them the dates when she and Kroy would be able to travel, and they planned the trip around her. Sounds like an organized trip that will end up being a fun event between mature married couples right? Yea right. The drama started when the bunch decided to meet for brunch to discuss their impending travels.

Phaedra and Cynthia still had some beef to work out over "bootygate" a.k.a Phaedra's rude comments about Cynthia's absence at her son's birthday, so they met up beforehand to hash it out. Phaedra, true to her southern roots, showed class and brought Cynthia a very large and beautiful apology bouquet. Cynthia was more than willing to put the incident behind them, even admitting that she has talked about Phaedra behind her back also, but she just didn't get caught yet.

After the peace summit, the rest of the gang showed up including Kenya, who wasn't invited. Kandi decided that since her man couldn't come, she wanted Kenya to join them on the trip. That didn't go over so well with Cynthia, who doesn't like Kenya, and Kenya basically had to invite herself to Anguilla because no one but Kandi was extending a warm welcome.

Despite claiming that getting pregnant with her first daughter Brielle at age 19 didn't "cramp her style" (her words not mine) Kim couldn't seem to get it together with this pregnancy enough to hang out with her friends. Very early into the meeting, it became apparent that she didn't want to go on the trip despite originally telling everyone she would go, that Kroy would be done with camp just in time and even dictated when the trip was going to happen. After she acted like she was really into planning the trip, she said she would have to check with her doctor to see if it was safe for her to go. Then, she started on a tirade of bizarre lies about her due date, her health, and breastfeeding and proclaimed that she wouldn't be able to go. To add insult to injury, then she mentioned that she and Kroy were going on vacation at the same time as the Anguilla trip. When everyone became annoyed that they moved their schedules around to accommodate her, she admitted that she didn't want to make time for her friends. When NeNe started in on her, Kim got upset and indignant and stormed off, exclaiming that she was done with the whole thing, which meant the whole show, not just the trip. And that's a wrap folks!

After watching this episode, it looks like Kim was making an excuse to make a fast exit to get her own show, Bethenny Frankel style. That all worked out great for Bethenny, but she is a business woman. Where's your Skinny Girl margarita Kim? Huh??? I couldn't believe that the tiny argument was enough to make her walk off, but now it all makes sense.

It will be interesting to see how the ladies fare without Kim, how the Anguilla trip goes, and if Phaedra kicks Kenya's ass. Stay tuned!
