The Voice Season 3

by: Todd Betzold

Blake Shelton got shutout the last episode of The Voice and was unable to add any new acts to his team. Things should change tonight for him, seeming he is falling behind: Team Adam and Team Cee Lo both have eleven acts and Team Christina has ten acts and Team Blake only has seven acts! Let's see how he does tonight when the Blind Auditions continue on The Voice.

The first singer of the night is Michelle Brooks-Thompson, a 28-year-old from Sunderland, MA. She works full-time at a bank and has twin daughters with her husband, who tried out and made the St. Louis Rams. He was released before the season started and his dreams were crushed. She sings "Proud Mary" and has a strong voice and I like her. Adam and Cee Lo turn around right away and the big note at the very end wins over Christina and she turns around also. Adam said it seemed natural for her and he would be blessed to have her on his team. Christina said she was having so much fun listening to her. Cee Lo said it was seamless and a proud vocal and you made it new and fresh. Michelle has the choice and she goes with Team Adam.

Next up is Diego Val, who is from Peru. When he was eight years old, he had a disease that required him to be in bed for a year and a half. His grandma gave him his first guitar when he was in bed and that's how he learned the love for music and now he volunteers at hospitals and sings songs for children in the hospital. He sings "Animal" and puts a little twist on it, but I am not liking it. His voice sounds a little weird and it has a weird tone to it. He breaks out into some Spanish during the song and goes real deep and Cee Lo likes it and turns around, so he will join Team Cee Lo. Adam thought he should move forward and Cee Lo is a good mix for him. Christina said there are twists and turns this season and she could snatch him up later.

Does anyone else get sick of hearing these sob stories? Do they all have to be sick as kids just to make it on The Voice???

Up next is Lauren Brooke, who is 24 from Pawling, NY. She had dyslexia and it made her shy and she felt stupid and she would sing and thought people would say she wasn't good. Her uncle passed away four years ago and he was her biggest fan. He also had a learning disability and encouraged her to write poem and lyrics, so it helped with her dyslexia. She has a decent voice, but I am not impressed. She doesn't seem to have much range and it never peaked. The judges agreed and none of them turned around. Adam said there were some pitchy things, but a strong presence. Blake said he liked it, but the pitch things got to her. Christine said a little practice and finesse and she is there.

The next singer is Suzanna Choffel, who is 32 years old and a music teacher. She wants to be on The Voice as a tribute to her students to go follow your dream. She sings "Landslide" and sounds a lot like Stevie Nicks. She has this rasp to her voice and it is nice. Adam turns around right away and eventually Blake joins him. Cee Lo said he could tell that was a grown woman singing. Blake said you did a rock song with a little country flair. Adam said it sounded refreshingly unique. Blake said he wants to help her get to where she wants to go. Suzanna goes with Team Blake. Blake finally added a singer to his team and that got him on a roll, as he then added Michaela Paige and Ryan Jirovec.

We have another singer coming back from Season 2, as Dez Duron returns to try out again. If you remember, he dropped out of Yale and playing football to move to L.A. to pursue his singing career. He is very yummy on the eyes and the coaches were upset they didn't turn around. Will they this time? He gets Blake to turn around right away and they remember each other. Blake called him a good-looking man last season. He gets Christina and Cee Lo to turn around also. Cee Lo said great to have him back and he has so much soul in your voice. He said he needs a car in L.A. and Christina said she has plenty of cars! Blake said man-to-man, you're hot. Adam said he is pretty sure that all three of them want to date you. In the end, Dez chooses Team Christina.

Next up is VJ, who is 25 years old from Bellflower, CA. He has been singing since he was three years old and teaches music at a conservatory. He is a huge Cee Lo fan and will be singing one of his songs, "Forget You." He does a decent job, but it isn't amazing. He can't do a Cee Lo song decent though. None of the coaches turn around though. Blake said he couldn't think of an odder song for his voice. Cee Lo joins him on stage and they sing a little together, which was fun to watch and VJ was a happy man!

The next singer is Alexis Marceaux, who is 23 years old from New Orleans. She writes her own music and tours with bands from New Orleans. She lost her house completely in Hurricane Katrina, but she feels lucky to have her family. And of course, music was her true therapy. Why does everyone use music as their therapy on this show? Drink a beer! She has a good voice and I like the vibe it has. She gets Cee Lo to turn around and no one else joins him, so she will join Team Cee Lo. He said she had a wonderful, impeccable voice.

We get a quick look at some more additions, as Adam picked up Indie rocker Sam James, Christina added fiery Latin pop singer Laura Vivas and Blake added singer-songwriter Lelia Broussard.

Our next singer is Brandon Mahone, who is 17 years old from Chicago. He is a classic singer, even at his young age. There was violence in Chicago at his school with gangs, so his Mom got him out of that school and they moved to Indianapolis, so he wants this opportunity to help out his Mom. He has a great voice and such a good tone to it and great range. I enjoyed it and so did the coaches, as Adam, Cee Lo and Christina all turned around. Christina said it was so smooth and so soulful and she could hear the emotion he was putting in the song. Cee Lo said he had a lot of soul in his voice for being 17. Adam said he is a real soul singer. After all the compliments, Brandon goes with Team Adam.

Next up is Jeffrey James, who is 25 years old and living in Nashville. He parks cars for a living, but that allows him time to pursue his dream of singing. I think he did really good and was entertaining on the stage. He seemed very confident and strong on the stage, however no one turned around for him. Blake said he was really good. Christina said he has a great voice, but she wasn't looking for something specific. So, they all say he kicked ass, but yet none of them turned around?

The next singer is Jordan Pruitt, who is 21 years old from Loganville, GA. She made her first album when she was 10 years old and got a call from Disney when she was 14. She got signed that day and has been on tour with Disney singers, like The Cheetah Girls and Miley Cyrus. She made the Billboard Charts twice, but a year ago she left her record label because she wants to make more mature music. If she has been so successful, why does she need The Voice? Wouldn't another record label snatch her up? She comes out wearing a black bodysuit and a gold jacket...confident girl and pretty. She gets Christina to turn around, so she will be joining Team Christina. I was not a fan of it, but it worked for Christina.

I am loving this girl and she just started talking! Next up is Terisa Griffin, who is 42 years old from Chicago. She used to work with Jerry Butler and she has never given up and she feels The Voice will take her exactly where she wants to be. She comes out on the stage with sass and confidence and I am in love. She sings Adele and does it very well. She is so powerful and gave me chills. She gets Christina and Blake to turn around late in the song, which shocks me. Christina said once the chorus came in she soared and nice job. Blake said he thinks she is awesome and he hit his button too and he has a lot of respect for singers and she is at the top of the list. She said because he was telling Christina what to do, she is going to pick Team Blake.

That's it folks for tonight! After another night of Blind Auditions, here is our tally: Team Adam with 14 acts, Team Blake with 12 acts, Team Cee Lo with 13 acts and Team Christina with 13 acts.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
