Trevin Hunte from The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

Season 3 of The Voice has kicked off to a very good start, as we have already seen some amazing auditions during the Blind Audition rounds. One of those auditions that stick out to me was by Trevin Hunte, as he wowed the coaches with his rendition of "Listen" by Beyonce. It gave me chills and worked on the coaches, as three of them turned around for him. Today, he talked with RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about his coach, Cee Lo Green, why he chose his audition, a special message to his fans and much more.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you try out for The Voice?
A. Trevin: I always knew inside of me that I wanted to become a singer. Trying out for The Voice was a great platform to actually showcase my talent. Plus, the contestants were not judged on their physical appearance, but by their actual talent.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you choose "Listen" by Beyonce as your audition song? That's quite a feat to take on.
A. Trevin: The reason I chose that song for my audition song was because I can relate to that song. All I can remember while I was singing that song was to tell my story. I feel all the artists that come on that stage is actually trying to get all four of those coaches to listen to what they are singing, so I felt there was kind of a powerful message behind it and that is why I chose that song.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What was it like seeing your Blind Audition on TV and being able to see the judges' reactions on the other side of those chairs?
A. Trevin: For me, I hated it. I liked the judges' reactions and their criticism, but I am my worst critic and I feel there are some things I could have done better and there were some things I could have polished a little bit better, but for the most part it was ok but I feel I could have done better.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you choose Cee Lo over Blake and Christina?
A. Trevin: I knew coming into the competition I really wanted to work with Cee Lo, but at the time when Christina turned around first my mind was going all over the place, like dang, should I pick Christina because she turned around first, but something told me I should just stick with my gut. When people see what I have in store or what I can come with, I think people will see I have something different. I feel I can show people a different part of me and being on Cee Lo's team, he will allow me to do so.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What's it been like working with Cee Lo as a coach so far?
A. Trevin: I really don't look at him as a coach. I look at him as a big brother. He's given me the best advice and I did what he told me. I keep it in my mind and I live everyday by what he told me.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What's it feel like to have people buying your song on iTunes and seeing all the support on Twitter?
A. Trevin: It means the world to me. Never in a million years did I think did I think I would make it this far. To search for my name on iTunes is a big thing for me. It's just amazing and the best thing in the world, especially coming from where I come from. I'm just thankful and grateful.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: If you could say anything to that middle school teacher that told you you would never make it in the music business what would you say?
A. Trevin: A lot of people have asked me that question and to be honest, I would have to thank her because if it wasn't for her negative feedback I don't think I really would have ever gotten on that stage to perform the song. All I can remember while I was singing that song was to prove her wrong and to everyone that didn't believe in me wrong. I really do thank her for pushing me, in a way. To be honest, I can't even be bitter with her anymore because she's actually pushed me this far and I made it on a team. I am so happy and I want to be shown as helping my family. You don't even know half of the stuff my family has gone through and I'm so proud of my parents for pushing me and so proud of the whole entire family because we came from a third world country called Ghana and for them to come here and make something positive out of all the problems they went through, I'm just so happy.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Would you like to say anything to your fans out there?
A. Trevin: I want to thank all the people that have been supporting me. I feel like I can't thank you guys enough. I always had confidence issues, but this has me feeling much better about myself and I go about my day being so happy and I just want to thank you guys for the love and support you have shown me. It's been amazing and I'm so happy.
