The Real World: St. Thomas

by Gina Scarpa

LaToya and Marie consider themselves independent women on The Real World: St. Thomas, which is more than they can say for their roommate Laura. She's been hung up on Trey the entire time they've been there, and it doesn't seem he does anything for her or treats her well. During a little girl trip, the pair try to convince Laura that she needs to be stronger and have some fun on the island.

A tour guide, Phillipo, comes to bring the roomies around St. Thomas and show them the sights and the history of the place they're calling home for the next few months. Marie is immediately drawn to the tour guide, mostly because he's rich, and it doesn't seem she's got Robb on her brain anymore. She's got that tough exterior up big time, and even though she apologizes to him for her behavior recently, it doesn't seem these two are getting back on track. LaToya tries to encourage Marie to make a decision. Either you're with him or you're not, but don't string him along if you're not.

During a night out at the bars, Robb sees Marie flirting with one of the locals. She didn't do anything bad necessarily, but her behavior was enough to severely upset him. Back at the house, Brandon noticed that Robb has self-inflicted bruises and burns on him, and expressed his concern but he didn't want to hear it. It's crazy how the camera crew sits by and watches this kid injure himself.

Trey shows up at a bar where Laura is having fun competing in drinking contests and playing volleyball. Of course, he gets immediately jealous and talks to her in a very condescending way. So we're still on the: You can't talk to anybody else but I'll talk to Chelsea back all I want thing? The two talk things out later on, cry it out, and decide they want to work things out and see what happens between them. I don't think I can take it anymore! And what about Chelsea (who is still coming to visit)?

The drama between Marie and Robb, as well as Swift, isn't even close to being over yet. Philippo calls the house, inviting everyone over for a cookout at his house, but it's clear he's really interested in making sure Marie comes. She spends the night giving the host much of her attention and it seems pretty obvious she's only interested in him for his money. Robb who? I don't think she even glanced his way once. Of course, he's pissed off about it and the roommates continue to worry that he may hurt himself.

Brandon and the other guys confront Robb about his recent behavior and drinking, expressing their concern. Robb seems to understand where they're coming from but Marie doesn't like that they're calling him out. If anyone needs to have concern for Robb, it's Marie! She's so much of the reason that he's been acting the way he does, but he does need to get it together and forget about her. They're definitely not to be.

Apparently, there's some joke in the house about some of the guys being gay and Swift doesn't like it. In fact, he gets so fired up about it that he tries to say that he and LaToya hooked up twice... just not anywhere where cameras were. They do have a playful friendship, but I don't know if I buy his story. The whole situation has Swift riled up and he's rude to Toya, even worse to Marie (taking shots at her weight and calling her ugly), and kicks out two girls that he invited back to the house after a night of drinking, feeling they were rude to him. He may be the most defensive person I've ever met.

When the roomies all head out together and some random girl in a bar tells Swift she heard from someone he's gay, that's his breaking point. No one will admit to having said it and I could swear he was getting close to getting into a fight with Robb, because he just won't side with over Marie. Robb tries to talk to him back at the house about it, but Swift won't talk to him because he's drunk. Swift feels like his time in St. Thomas is being ruined by Marie and decides, the next day, to go to church. He's been away from it for a while and feels much better after, even giving a peace offering to Toya so that they can move on. Now, if only he and Marie could STOP going back and forth. I still have a headache from all of their fighting. They both need a time out.
