MasterChef Season 3

by Todd Betzold

If the previews hold true, it looks like we are in for an eventful night on MasterChef, as a special chef joins the homecooks tonight and cooks alongside them. Then, after a Mystery Box Challenge and Elimination Test it looks like we will have TWO homecooks sent home tonight. Watch out everyone! It's going to be a bumpy night.

The homecooks head back to the MasterChef Kitchen and it is Mystery Box Challenge. Tonight, the homecooks will be joined by Graham Elliot during the Mystery Box Challenge, so they can see what a professional chef would do under the same circumstances. Tonight's Mystery Box contains rabbit, forbidden rice, ginger and much more.

Josh planned on making a rice dish, but the Forbidden Rice is black and would turn everything black and he must rethink himself now as he has things going along smoothly already. Time runs out and the judges will choose three dishes that stood out, of course after we take a look at Graham's dish that he made. Felix said it is like art on a plate.

After one final look at the homecook's dishes, the judges decide to first call up Frank, who made Rabbit Two Ways with Vegetable Medley and Gooseberry Reduction. Chef Ramsay said it looks great and tastes great. Joe said you can tell just by looking at the sauce it is great. Graham said good job. The next dish they would like at is from Mike, who made Leg of Rabbit with Forbidden Rice and Brussels Sprouts. Joe said they love the carmelization of the dish and it is one of his best dishes. Graham said you cooked the leg beautifully, which is the hardest cut to do, and you nailed it. The last dish they will look at is from Becky, who made Braised Leg of Rabbit with Carrots, Mushrooms and Ramps. Chef Ramsay said it is cooked to perfection and it is delicious and restaurant quality. Joe said you can see how juicy it is and this might be your lucky rabbit's foot.

The judges discuss and they decide the winning dish tonight is from Becky, who after three times in the Top 3 for the Mystery Box Challenge finally gets the win. Becky gets to head back to the pantry with the judges and gets to decide what the homecooks will do for the Elimination Test. The theme tonight is the tools of the trade, which are a pizza stone, a wok and a deep fryer. Becky will be participating in the challenge, but she does get to choose what piece of equipment she will cook with and then she gets to choose what the other homecooks will cook with. For herself, she is going to cook with the deep fryer. For the other homecooks, she chose the pizza stone. They have 60 minutes to cook an amazing dish using the pizza stone and Becky the deep fryer.

Mike cannot remember his recipe for pizza dough, so he scraping the pizza idea and going with lobster. Becky may come off as arrogant at times, but I think she knows what she is talking about too and is smart. Mike and David seem to be all over the place and Monti burns her bread right at the end, but will she be able to salvage it? She cuts away at the burnt parts of the bread and seems to be getting it together. The time is running out and they all rush to plate their dishes.

Mike is first with his dish, Oven-Roasted Lobster with Vegetables and Rice. Graham said when it flakes like that it looks dehydrated. Chef Ramsay asked how a stone could beat him and said it is his worst performance. Joe said you drew a blank and hopes there is not a blank space at his cooking station tomorrow. Becky is next and she made Shrimp tempura with Curry sauce and Yuca Chips. Chef Ramsay said it's delicious and she nailed the shrimp. Christine is next and she made Indian Flatbread with Chicken and Fried Egg. Graham said it is a well-conceived and well-constructed dish.

Up next is Monti, who made Roasted Carrot Soup with Irish Soda Bread. Joe said he loves the soda bread and every ingredient makes sense and he would love to eat that whole bowl on a rainy day. Chef Ramsay said the soup is delicious, but the bread is phenomenal and well done. David is next with Smoked Lobster with Oven-Roasted Potatoes and Bacon. Graham said it looks really bad. Joe asked if he is supposed to eat this and said watching him cook this was a letdown and the proceeds to throw it in the trash.

Chef Ramsay then goes to Tali's cooking space and said it is a disaster and he would have been fired a long time ago for doing that to a cooking station. He then brings up his dish, which is Three Cheese Pizza with Duck Breast and Crème Fraiche Sauce. Chef Ramsay said it is served on a bed of raw flour and then spits it out and if he works in a mess, he produces a mess. Tanya is last and she made Lamb Cutlets with Olive Flatbread and Roasted Garlic Yogurt. Chef Ramsay said the dough is still very raw and she can't be happy with that. Joe spits it out and said it is raw garlic gloves and when you give us raw food to eat it is almost personally offensive.

The judges discuss and will announce the three worst dishes tonight. It looks like it could be between Mike, Tanya, Tali and David. The dish that stood out tonight is from Monti and she will be a team captain next week on the Team Challenge. The three worst dishes of the night are from Tanya, David and Mike (ugh, for some reason Tali survives again). Mike steps forward and told the stone got the best of him tonight and his time is done in the MasterChef Kitchen. We still have Tanya and David up there, but are they safe??? Nope...the Top 10 is about to become the Top 9 real quickly. They both did not do well and Chef Ramsay tells Tanya that her time is done on MasterChef and David is safe.

MasterChef airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX.
