American Idol Season 11

by Todd Betzold

The Top 5 set fire to the rain last night on American Idol as they took on songs from the 1960s and British pop...it was a great night and a night of praise from the judges for many, especially their favorites...it's getting old judges.

Ryan kicks off the show with some results right away...up first is Joshua Ledet. The judges praised him last night and Jimmy Iovine praises him tonight...ugh, I just can't stand him. Joshua is safe tonight...real big shocker...another week of him screaming!

After a look at the Top 5's music video for Ford, we then get to see a performance by Coldplay...Idol always gets the big names.

Now back to the results...up next are Hollie Cavanagh and Phillip Phillips. Jimmy said Hollie killed her first song and was neutral on her second song, so she will be safe. Jimmy said Phillip has been sick and should be commended on what he did, but his songs were bland and he needs to take risks and he will be in the bottom two tonight. Phillip is safe and Hollie is in the bottom two tonight...the last three weeks I have picked Hollie to go home and she hasn't...tonight I pick her to be safe and she probably will go home.

We then welcome back Season 4 winner and country superstar, Carrie Underwood, as she sings her new single, "Blown Away." She is so amazing and beautiful.

Back to the results...last ones up are Skylar Laine and Jessica Sanchez. Jimmy said Skylar had so much energy on her first song and then didn't like her second song, but it wasn't enough for her to go home. Jimmy thinks Jessica is the best singer in the competition, but her Tina Turner song was too racy and too mature and it may cost her. Jessica is safe and Skylar joins Hollie in the bottom two tonight.

To drag out the results a little bit more, we get an encore performance from Coldplay...they don't even bring out the Idol winner out again...nope, forget Carrie.

Now to see who goes home...Hollie or Skylar? It better be Hollie! We get some final words from the judges before Ryan gives us the results. After the nationwide vote of nearly 60 million, the person going home tonight is Skylar...Hollie is safe for the third week in a row....ugh!

American Idol airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7c on FOX.
