The Voice Season 2

by Todd Betzold

Last week on The Voice, we saw Team Blake and Team Christina take the stage in the quarterfinals as two singers from each team moved forward. Now it is time for Team Cee Lo and Team Adam to fight it out for a spot in the semifinals.

The final four artists from Team Adam and Team Cee Lo are competing to move on to the semifinals. After all the artists perform, Adam and Cee Lo will have to do an instant elimination...they must send one of their singers home tonight! We will also have performances from Cee Lo and his team, Adam and his team and Cee Lo will join forces with his old group, Goodie Mob, and sing their new single, "Fight To Win." After Cee Lo gets rid of some gas on live TV and gets the judges all in an uproar, we get to the performances.

Jamar Rogers (Team Cee Lo) - "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi
Bring on the tears...I love this man and hope he does amazingly well. He does so good with this song and he sings with so much emotion. He is great on stage and I think he well-liked, so he is good to go. Adam said he is so amazing...you belong with Cee Lo and you are exactly where you should be. Blake said he doesn't know if there is ever more of a song that belongs to a singer. Christina said you sang it like it's your life on the line and he is one of her favorites in the competition. Cee Lo said he is such a strong, sweet spirit and he would proudly stand beside him to fight, win, lose or draw and die with you...I love you sir. This was such a special moment.

Katrina Parker (Team Adam) - "Jar Of Hearts" by Christina Perri
She looked beautiful tonight and sang even better. I liked her voice tonight and I think she has finally gotten past her nerves and showed America why she deserves to be here...good job girl. Blake said that was awesome...your voice was sweet and powerful. Christina said you are who you are and own that...you did beautiful. Cee Lo said she looked beautiful and sounded equally flawless. Adam said he is so proud...told her she wasn't one of his favorites on his team at the beginning, but now she has one of the best voices on his team...it was flawless.

Now it is time for Cee Lo to join his team on the stage, as they sing "Dancing In The Street." This was so fun and upbeat, but can we expect anything but that from Cee Lo. We also get to see Juliet Simms debut some new locks, as she went blonde...I may like it! They did a great job and showed off the team well.

Mathai (Team Adam) - "I'm Like A Bird" by Nelly Furtado
To be honest, I have never really been a fan of Mathai...her voice is weird to me and I struggle to understand the words when she sings. This song was just blah to me...I could understand her, but it was just boring and nothing special. Blake said she sang beautifully. Christina said she feels she truly didn't connect with the song this week...it seemed to be force fed this week. Adam thought it was great...he thinks her energy is infectious.

James Massone (Team Cee Lo) - "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel
The ladies like him, so I am sure he will be singing to them again tonight (Cee Lo gave him the nickname Lady Killer #2). This was the perfect song choice for James and his voice...he sang it very well and just looked comfortable on the stage. Blake said he sang the song great, but doesn't know how he felt about it...it just laid there for me. Christina said she felt that she wanted something a little different this week. Adam said he loved it a lot. Cee Lo said he enjoyed it...he voice is so soft-spoken and genuine.

Time for Cee Lo to take the stage again, as his old group Goodie Mob sings their new single. This was an over-the-top production, as they had some crazy, light-up mouthpiece in which made them sound weird.

Tony Lucca (Team Adam) - "...Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears
Christina said he was one-dimensional last time, so he and Adam wanted to mix it up and mix it up they did. This was a totally different version of this song, but he did an awesome job. It was so great and the audience seemed to love it...welcome to the finals Tony. Christina said she enjoyed it...it was fun and different and wants a Mickey Mouse Club reunion. Blake said it pisses him off because that was really smart...I love you for what you just did. Adam said he loves him...the Mickey Mouse thing has haunted you, so you embraced it and did something different...I am proud of you.

Cheesa (Team Cee Lo) - "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston
She took on Celine Dion in her survival song and knocked it out of the park and now she is taking on Whitney...big move. First of all, she looked absolutely beautiful tonight. Second, she gave me goosebumps. Third, this girl can sing...stop hating, haters and give some respect to this girl...standing ovation from Christina and Cee Lo. Christina said she had to applaud her for some courage...you managed to do your own thing with that song. Cee Lo said you look exceptionally beautiful...Whitney is my fairy godmother...I'm ready for our female vocalist to be women...this is a grown women song...great job.

Pip (Team Adam) - "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane
He lost the bowtie tonight and I think it helped him let loose a little tonight. The beginning was excellent and he sounded great...the ending was a little rough for me. Blake said where the hell is the bowtie...that's like me without the alcohol. Adam said we talked about tightening up the end and it wasn't perfect, but it's not supposed to be...I'm proud of you.

Time for Adam to take the stage with his team, as they sing "Instant Karma." This was a great performance and it was fun, as well. Another coach laying low (Adam was playing the drums) and showcased his team...the point of this performance...good job Adam.

Juliet Simms (Team Cee Lo) - "Crying" by Aerosmith
Team Cee Lo is bringing it tonight and even though Juliet looked like she was trying to fly away with the wings on her back, she is not going anywhere in this competition. She is such a great performer and has a rock voice that is so fun to listen to. Blake said it was really good. Christina said she is fabulous...it's like you blackout on stage...you give it all you got. Cee Lo said she did an amazing job...I'm impressed with your voice...each and every time it is something new.

Now time for the instant eliminations....I think it is going to be James and Mathai leaving us tonight...do you agree? Team Cee Lo is up first and after a very nice speech, he decides to send James home tonight (I called that one). Team Adam's turn and a speech from him as well, he decides to send Pip home (kind of shocking).

One more artist from each team will go home when The Voice airs tomorrow at 9/8c on NBC.
