Chris Pickler from The Biggest Loser Season 13

by Gina Scarpa

From the beginning, Chris was resistant to the process of The Biggest Loser. Early on, she locked herself in a bathroom and threatened to quit the show. Throughout her time on the ranch, she had a tough time dealing with change and last week, sabotaged herself by eating junk food after feeling guilty that her husband wanted her to come home. Yet, despite the challenges she faced, she also found a stronger, happier version of herself as well. Today, we talked to Chris about the ups and downs of being on The Biggest Loser.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Whose idea was it to audition for The Biggest Loser and what was your biggest worry going in?
A. Chris: It was my idea to audition for The Biggest Loser on a whim after my daughter asked when the new season started and we went to the website to find out. My biggest worry was being away from my kids.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Was being placed on separate teams harder for you or Roy and why?
A. Chris: I believe there were pros and cons to being placed on separate teams. However, I think it was what we needed.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Which trainer's style do you prefer more, Bob's or Dolvett's?
A. Chris: I prefer Bob's style more when it comes to training. I love them both but Bob is not as militant as Dolvett. I don't respond well to having orders barked at me like a drill sergeant.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: This week, you talked about being happy on the ranch. When did you start to feel like you were losing some of the unhappiness that you came in the door with?
A. Chris: I think my happiness started to shine through as the pounds were shed. My happiness did not happen overnight. It was a process.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When Roy called you and said he wanted you to come home, what emotions were you feeling that made you turn to food?
A. Chris: I was feeling very conflicted in that I wanted to stay and fight to the end but I always wanted to comfort my loved one at home who was hurting so badly. I was simply trying to find something to take the pain away and reverted back to what I had used for almost my entire life. I think the pain was too deep for me to cope at that time.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did Bob's speech during the last chance workout really help to motivate you and were you hoping that you would be able to stay or were you ready to go?
A. Chris: Bob really caused me to think about what I also needed, in addition to what my family needed. He was simply trying to get me to a place where I could balance my needs alongside my family's. I was hoping, at that time, that I would be able to undo the damage from my binge but in the back of my mind, felt that it was too late. So in the end, I needed to be at peace with where I would be at the end of the week. The last thing I needed was regret.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's been the biggest struggle at home with weight loss?
A. Chris: I supposed my biggest struggle is balancing time with workouts, daily obligations, activities, and school with the kids, etc. The same thing I struggled with before... I've just had to add myself into that equation.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are you most looking forward to with the live finale?
A. Chris: I have mixed feelings with the finale. I am very excited about seeing the people one last time, who became a part of my journey to find my self-worth and happiness. However, I'm ready to say goodbye to all these flights! I still don't like flying all that much...
