American Idol Season 11

by Todd Betzold

Seven is supposed to be a lucky number, but this week on American Idol one of the Top 7 won't be too lucky...someone has to go home.

We start off with Tommy Hilfiger meeting with the Top 7 at the mansion and helping them pick out their outfits for this week. The theme this week is music from 2010 to today...can be of any genre, but had to of been released within that timeframe. Jimmy Iovine is joined this week by Akon. Besides the solo performances, we also will get two duos and a trio performance tonight from the Top 7.

Skylar Laine - "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" by Kellie Pickler
Skylar brings out the guitar for tonight's performance and rocked that stage. She looks beautiful on the stage and goes back to her roots with a good ol' country song and shows off her great voice...I really enjoyed it. Randy said you are definitely back...you could have a hit with that song...that was a crazy hot and crazy good. Jennifer said from here with everything going on it felt like a perfect pitch. Steven said he is enamored by the girls on this show and it goes to prove that the crows may crow, but the hens deliver the goods.

Colton Dixon - "Love The Way You Lie" by Skylar Grey
Jimmy said Colton is behind Phillip and needs to do something to move past him...this performance can do that...will it? Colton is amazing and this performance was nothing short of amazing. It was raw and simple...he sat behind a piano and sang...I loved it. Jennifer said you're able to sing any song and make it your own. Steven said you are such a rare talent...you sing so good you're going to get even better...I can't wait for you to sing your own songs. Randy said he loved his interpretation...you always throw yourself into your performance.

Elise Testone and Phillip Phillips - "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye
They joked in the video before the performance about having to sing together again, but this is a great duo and they sing awesome together. I love both their voices and they work well together. Steven said it's a great rendition of the song and way to choose that song. Jennifer loves the feel that they brought to that duet. Randy said they both did well, but Elise did win this round.

Jessica Sanchez - "Stuttering" by Jazmine Sullivan
She starts out sitting on top of the piano and does an ok job...she stands up off that piano and wow...she kicked it in big time and did an awesome job. She has a great voice and I don't know this song, but she sings it well. Randy said it was superb...it was at the highest degree...you slayed the biggest fish of the night...this was the toughest song to sing tonight. Jennifer said take us on a ride these next few weeks and I want to be here to see it.

Joshua Ledet - "Runaway Baby" by Bruno Mars
He celebrated his 20th birthday on Monday and before singing he got a video birthday message from Fantasia...a message from Fantasia to Mantasia! It was fun and upbeat, which is not his forte. He does it well, but I prefer a ballad from him...the judges loved it, as they give him a standing ovation. Steven said every time he sings he sells it. Jennifer said he has so much control of his voice...your performances are so dynamic. Randy said it was an unbelievable performance yet again from you.

Colton and Skylar - "Don't You Wanna Stay" by Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean
In their video, they squash the rumors that they are dating...he's still available America! Another country song for this duo, which Skylar knocks out of the park...she sounds amazing. The thing is, Colton, the rocker, does an amazing job also. He is a great singer and this shows you why. Steven said that you just made love singing to each other, so it don't matter anyway...the harmonies were beautiful. Jennifer said there are so many different chords and melodies in that and you did a nice job. Randy said I love you both, but this was just okay for me.

Hollie Cavanagh - "Perfect" by Pink
She has been in the bottom three the past two weeks, but Hollie is back everyone. This was a stellar performance and she did excellent with a song I love. Great vocals and a great performance. Jennifer said she looked beautiful and she sang beautifully tonight...she should be proud of herself. Steven said you weren't perfect for me...it just laid there for me. Randy said it wasn't perfect, but you were so much better than last week.

Phillip Phillips - "Give A Little More" by Maroon 5
This started bad for me...I know, don't let me down Phillip, but did he ever pick it up as the song went on and I fell in love again. I love his voice and he is a great performer. Steven said we have watched you evolved here...keep winning. Jennifer said it was a little bit underwhelming for a Phillip Phillips' performance...I want to see you breakout...it wasn't everything I know you can give us. Randy said he didn't know if it was a wow kind of moment.

Hollie, Jessica and Joshua - "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson
Okay, so this is one of my favorite songs of the year right now and Kelly does this song justice...the three of them did not do well. It was too hard of a song for three people to sing...bad song choice. Three big voices going at it at one time. Jennifer said it's the year of the big voice on Idol. Steven said it was beautiful...nice going. Randy said it was dope...this trio sounded really good.

Elise Testone - "You and I" by Lady Gaga
Before her performance, she tells Ryan that she went and saw a Jason Segal movie on Easter Sunday...well, we just happen to have a video message from him wishing her well tonight. She starts out behind the piano and starts out on a great note...she continues it throughout the whole song. Taking on Lady Gaga is a big feat, but she does it well. I liked this performance and liked what Elise did with it...my girl is back! Randy said Elise is back...was the perfect song for you...very dope vocals right there. Jennifer said you let go and kept control at the same time...no one can sing like you. Steven said you took a song that is so simple and made it genius.
