The Voice Season 2

by Todd Betzold

We saw Team Blake and Team Christina perform last week on The Voice and now it is time for us to take a look at Team Adam and Team Cee Lo as we try to make our way down to a Top 16 this week.

Katrina Parker (Team Adam) - "Tonight Tonight" by Smashing Pumpkins
She got some extensions and looked very beautiful on stage. It was an alright performance...nothing crazy or bad, just there for me. Christina said that your voice immediately captivated me, but wanted her to rock out a little bit to it more. Cee Lo said it was a commendable performance. Adam said she is a woman with a beautiful voice and she did what he told her to do...she killed it.

Cheesa (Team Cee Lo) - "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston
She owned that stage...the confidence she showed was amazing. She had some choreography going on and dancing with the backup dancers and she sang well and it was a great show on stage...very cool. Adam and Blake loved it and said it had Cee Lo written all over it. Cee Lo said it was electrifying and the colors and he was proud of her.

Tony Lucca (Team Adam) - "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel
He's always struggled with falsetto and Adam said if he can work that out this will be his favorite performance ever. I really enjoy Tony, but I wasn't a fan of this song choice. He did alright and I liked the ending, but the rest was alright. Christina says she finds him to be one-dimensional and wonders where he can go from here. She pointed out Justin tweeted him today and she hopes this is about the voice not about a celebrity swaying the vote. Adam said he worked his way around the falsetto that made him proud...he gave him a huge challenge and he made him proud.

Kim Yarbrough (Team Adam) - "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele
When she said she wanted to sing this, I got excited...I think she can do this song amazingly well. And amazingly well is what she did...she gave me goose bumps. So good and did Adele justice. Blake said the song got better as it went on...it was good. Cee Lo said he didn't know if he loved it, but he loves her. Adam said he loves her too...she is an unbelievable singer. There were some issues for you he was worried about, but for the most part it was fantastic...it wasn't perfect, but nothing ever is.

James Massone (Team Cee Lo) - "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones
Cee Lo wanted to pick a song to win the girls over...it worked because as he moved around the stage they were screaming like crazy and often drowning him out, which hurts him...it seemed to distract him at times. Blake said he almost threw his panties on the stage and is waiting for the numbers because he is going to vote for him. Christina said there were some pitch problems, but she likes his runs. Cee Lo said he is solid and loved it, but wish he would have hit some high notes and may have been paying attention to the ladies a little too much, but he has done that himself before...can't blame him for that.

Juliet Simms (Team Cee Lo) - "Roxanne" by The Police
Its rocker time and I love her. I wasn't a fan before tonight and she won me over. She has that Janis Joplin-type voice and she seems to be digging deep for it, but when they show her it looks effortless for her...it was so good. Adam said this just pisses me right off...he really wanted her on his team...she is the best performance I have seen so far. Christina said she was into it and her voice is so dope. Cee Lo said wow baby, just wow.

Mathai (Team Adam) - "Ordinary People" by John Legend
I guess I can she did a good job, but I am just not a fan of her or her style. I haven't been since her audition, but she is a crowd favorite and a judge favorite. There were lots of screams for her, but not from me. Christina said she likes her voice a lot...a little loungey for her, but for tonight she enjoyed it. Blake loves her voice and loves her confidence the most. Adam said she is just so magical up there...has one of the most unique voices in this competition.

Tony Vincent (Team Cee Lo) - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears For Fears
His is a brand new Dad...his wife had a baby a week ago, so congrats to them! It was a good performance and he has a good voice and I enjoy him. Blake said with everything going on up there it was hard for him to focus on the music. Christina said she is from the pop world and loves the production value, but felt he was restricted with his range because of the song. Cee Lo agreed and it was about the production value and he apologized for restricting him.

Karla Davis (Team Adam) - "Airplanes" by B.o.B.
Will Bertha come out again tonight? So, the country singer is singing B.o.B.? Bertha came out at times, but she was quiet. Christina said she was the biggest surprise of the night. Blake said she did well with the song that she was given...she hit notes when she had to sing...it was too wordy. Adam said there was breathiness and nerves, but he loved the choice and she was a huge surprise and did well.

Erin Martin (Team Cee Lo) - "Walk Like An Egyptian" by The Bangles
This could be a good song choice for her...her voice annoys me though and she seems to sing half the words or pronounce them. So, the song choice was not good for her...she was made to put on a production on the stage and failed to me. It was boring and just drug on and I still could not understand her words. Blake said it was vocally as good as it could have been with that song choice. Christina said she could have brought it harder...with the voice and the dancing...wanted more aggression with her vocals. Cee Lo agrees with Christina and wants her attitude to be more take charge and wins this thing for Team Cee Lo.

Pip (Team Adam) - "When You Were Young" by The Killers
He wants to get into rock music and who else to teach him but his coach, Adam. He kept the bowtie, but brought out the leather jacket to be more rocker-ish. Pip can sing, but sing and be a rocker? I am not feeling it...it seems too polished for a rock song...gotta be more raw, but don't get me wrong he sounds great. Christina said he sounds too proper for the song. Adam said he wanted him to be more dangerous and scary...gotta work harder on the intent of what he is trying to do...he's gotta be more grittier.

Jamar Rogers (Team Cee Lo) - "Are You Gonna Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz
This was a perfect song choice for Jamar...he has so much confidence on stage and shows off so much emotion. He worked that stage and the crowd and I loved it...he is an awesome guy and proud of him. Blake, again, didn't like the production going on on the stage...didn't want to take away from Jamar. Adam said he embodied what this show is with that performance. Cee Lo loved it. I think we have a new frontrunner!
