Lindsey Pavao from The Voice Season 2

by Todd Betzold

The live shows kicked off last week on The Voice and now the singers are competing for the votes of America. Lindsey Pavao took on "Somebody The I Used To Know" by Gotye and not only won over the votes of America, but also saw her song rise up the charts on iTunes. With so much support, Lindsey moved on to the next round and will be representing Team Christina in the Top 16. Today, we got an exclusive interview with Lindsey as she talked about working with Christina as a coach, the camaraderie among the singers and much more.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What made you want to initially audition for The Voice?
A. Lindsey: I guess I went out on a whim. I wanted to get a call back, that was my goal for doing the whole thing. My boss said, "I am giving you the night off, you need to audition." I drove out to San Francisco, and well...seven months later, here I am.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What has it been like working with Christina as a coach?
A. Lindsey: It's been really awesome, I think it's the most unlikely situation. I mean, it never really was on my radar to be able to work with Christina until I saw her chair turn around. It's been really cool...she is very intelligent and she does her research on us, so when we get into practice she knows exactly what she wants us to work on.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: You performed on your first live show for The Voice. What was that like hitting that stage with millions watching you?
A. Lindsey: The live show was super overwhelming, and not in a high pressure situation. Just a strangely emotional experience. I got off the stage and was crying, and two of the producers came up to me asking, "What's wrong, what's wrong?", and I am just like...I am just so happy! I never happy cried like that before in my life...it was so strange. Yeah, at this point it's more of putting on a good production every week for people. Because I think we have all got to this point in the contest where we have all done things to be proud of.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: After the live shows you were charting on both the Top 100 and Alternative charts on iTunes. What was that like seeing your name up there on those lists?
A. Lindsey: I think that before the show it didn't even register that there was a whole iTunes sale aspect of it, so that was kind of mind-blowing. To see that you are charting, especially the alternative charts, that's completely out of this world. But, it's really cool to see that people are receiving this music, these new cover songs, and they like them a lot. It's really inspiring to me. At first it was super shocking, and now it's totally cool...I like watching everyone chart...it's cool.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: What's the camaraderie like among the singers on the show, not only Team Christina but the other teams as well? We see you all supporting each other on Twitter and Facebook, but does it make it hard since you have to compete against each other and see someone get sent home?
A. Lindsey: - Yeah, it's really weird...it's like the thing we don't talk about. That we aren't all going to be together every week. We are just like this weird little family, you know? None of us get to have our friends and family at the hotel...we kind of just have each other. Yeah, that's the cool thing about this show, we kind of each perform in our own genre, our own style, and it really doesn't have bearing on what anyone else does. It's nice, it's cool. I like watching everyone else go and put on an amazing show.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Do you get to see all the other team members as well?
A. Lindsey: Yeah, we all hangout. Actually tonight, Team Adam and Team Cee Lo are going to be performing and Team Blake and Team Christiana are going to be in the audience just showing support.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: As an artist, what type of album do you want to make?
A. Lindsey: If I can produce, I'll try and make an album. I think it would be, uh... this is an awesome question, but it's a very, very important question. I think I just want to make a simple indie, pop, crossover album. Something that I can artistically express myself, but it's still tangible...it's not like an avant-garde.

Q. Todd, RealityWanted: Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans (new or old)?
A. Lindsey: Well, I don't really have old fans. I had some friends, that are musicians which is kind of cool. I guess if I had to say something to all of my new fans from the show, and everyone who supported me throughout the years, it's just thank you. When they called my name as one of the people saved by the voters, it was one of the most powerful, overwhelming, feelings of gratitude I ever felt and it inspired me to make more art for people who do appreciate what I do.
