The Amazing Race 20

by Gina Scarpa

We pick up tonight in Paraguay on The Amazing Race tonight but teams are on their way out and heading all the way to Turin, Italy to find the Lingotto Building. Mark and Bopper are so excited to go to Europe that they go right to the airport, instead of stopping at the travel agent like everyone else. They end up getting a flight and are still singin' a happy song (literally)... because they don't realize that every other team grabbed an earlier flight until the Jersey boys point it out. They're now an hour and fifteen minutes behind everyone else.

After a tiring run to the top of the Lingotto Building, Art and JJ reach the clue box first and find a Fast Forward. They have to land a remote control helicopter on a landing pad on their partner's helmet - not the most exciting task. The rest face a Road Block, where one team member must rappel down the inside of the Lingotto Building, which is over 100 feet. Rachel makes easy work of the task, and she and Brendon take off for Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile first. Joey and Danny finish next, followed by Dave and Rachel, despite the fact that they argued the entire time.

At the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile, we are forced to sit through a Ford Focus commercial, albeit a brief one, since the task is for teams to park using the car's active park assist feature. Then, they can move on to the museum, in search of a specific vehicle (1916 Tin Lizzie) that contains their next clue. Rachel and Dave aren't the only team fighting... Brendon and Rachel have a meltdown during the parking challenge as well. While he chases her through the street of Italy, trying to calm her down, Joey and Danny move into first place.

Art and JJ finally land the helicopter while we still wait for Mark and Bopper to show up at the Lingotto Building! Move it, Kentucky!

The clue from the Museo is a coin that leads them to another building but on the way, the Rachels get back to fighting with their significant others. It's time for a Detour - Clean That Statue or Name That Salami. In Clean That Statue, teams clean off a statue and return it to its pristine condition. In Name That Salami, teams must taste 14 different kinds of salami, walk half a mile, and then identify each kind. Way too hard. You gotta go with Clean That Statue but you gotta watch those power washers. They'll knock the heads right off the statues!

Dave and Rachel finish the statues first and leave for Piazza Costello, the pit stop for this leg. The only people that choose the salami are Brendon and Rachel (who can't stop fake crying), and Kerri and Stacy.  Art and JJ, thanks to the Fast Forward, arrive first at the pit stop and win $5,000 each! The rest of the teams arrive in the following order: Dave and Rachel, Joey and Danny, Vanessa and Ralph, Nary and Jamie, Brendon and Rachel, Kerri and Stacey, and Mark and Bopper.  Art and JJ show up at the mat to split their winnings with Bopper, because he's running the race for his daughter.  Thankfully, at least for me, Mark and Bopper are not out quite yet.  It's a non-elimination round!
