After weeks of auditions, it is now time for the singers to take their vocal chords to Hollywood, as we get started with the Hollywood Week on American Idol.
I think it is time for another girl to win, so let's go find her in Hollywood, ok? Round 1 starts with 309 singers in an attempt to take that number to 24. Half the singers will hit the stage the first day, so do or die for them.
We start with groups of 10 singing a capella with no feedback and half of them will be going home. Johnny Keyser, confident like no other, gets us started on an amazing track with some great vocals. Heejun Han, the opposite of confident, is up next talking about how everyone is all pretty and tall...I like him lol. They both move on to the next step.
Some quick looks at Elise Testone, Baylie Brown and Hallie Day and of course they all move on. Hallie had some good stuff in her...I like her. Jen Hirsh sings the crap out of her song...love her. Lauren Gray has some good stuff too and of course, they both make it through. Not all the girls are doing good and we get a look at some girls you wonder how they even made it to Hollywood...quick visits for them as they are sent home.
Phillip Phillips hit the stage, but without his guitar, and I think his guitar helped him sing because that was not good. Reed Grimm sang "I Got A Golden Ticket," hoping it would sway the judges, but forgetting the words will not help with that. After getting cut last season during Hollywood Week, Travis Orlando is back to prove he should make it further this season. Phillip and Reed move on, but Travis gets sent home again this season. In all, 68 people were sent home after day one.
It's time for day two and after having to leave his daughter for the first time, Adam Brock takes front and center and does an awesome job. Jane Carrey, the daughter of Jim Carrey, hits the stage and does a decent job. Adam moves on, but Jane is sent home...sad to see.
Shannon Magrane is first in the group and does an okay job, but then Ladies Man, David Leathers, Jr., hits the stage and sings a Celine Dion song and works it out...good job. Jessica Phillips' turn and does an awesome job also. They all are moving on though.
Erika Van Pelt, a deejay, belts out a good ol' country song and then Creighton Fraker hits some big notes during his song. Aaron Marcellus, a music teacher, hits some amazingly high notes as well and all three made it on to the next day.
Now time for the drama...Lauren Mink is first and does an ok job...nothing special. Jeremy Rosado, nicknamed Dirty by Randy, is next and does quite well. And here we go, Symone Black, with her stage dad in attendance, she starts off and does an amazing job singing "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay," but then it gets scary. Randy asks why she chose that song and she answers that she wanted to appeal to an older audience and then proceeds to stagger and looks like she had a seizure as she collapses off the front of the stage and medics rush in....and the end of the show.
Tune in tomorrow to see what happens and for Part 2 of Hollywood Week on American Idol when it airs Thursday at 8/7c on FOX.
