The X Factor: Top 7

by Todd Betzold

We saw two acts go home last week and another two will go home this week, as the singers on The X Factor take on the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Two acts will be sent home again, with the act having the lowest vote being automatically sent home and the next two lowest vote-getters battling it out for the judges' votes to see who will survive.

Not only is it Michael Jackson week, but they bring out the big guns and have some of the Jacksons in attendance: his brothers Marlon, Jackie and Tito; his mother, Katherine and his children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.

Up first tonight is Josh Krajcik, trying to be the last over 30s to survive is nervous this week because it is going out of his comfort zone...I'm not worried, he's amazing. I enjoyed it, but it was not as good as his previous performances. There were a lot of things going on around him that took away from his singing, but I'll think he'll be back next week.

Astro hits the stage next, as he takes on the King with his rap-style. He enjoyed himself on the stage and he does great writing his own lyrics, but again I wasn't feeling this performance...just seemed lackluster to me. I love the kid, but seemed dull to me.

Simon said he is removing all the props and gimmicks for Drew's performance this week...how will that work out? She took "Billie Jean" and twisted it all around and I enjoyed that. It was a boring performance again from her, but the vocals were amazing...and another arguing match between the judges over Drew. This time between Nicole and Paula vs. Simon...I agree with the ladies...sorry Simon!

Time for my girl, Rachel Crow, to work the stage. She did well and worked that stage. I did not like the song choice for her, but she could sing the phone book to me and I would love it. I feel she has the X Factor, so vote for her!

Now this might be the performance of the night, in my eyes, as Marcus Canty takes the stage. Besides the big production on the stage and Marcus releasing his big guns with the sleeveless vest (where did those come from), this was a disappoint to me. I thought it would be amazing, but his vocals weren't there for me.

On a sidenote: every time they show Michael's kids they seemed bored out of their mind...could make an attempt to try and look intrigued to be there kiddos!

Time for Chris Rene and now I feel he might be able to break out into a great performance, which would be a change for him, in my eyes. So, I lied...he did an okay performance, which is normal for him. I am not impressed with this guy and don't know how he has made it this far in the competition...I think we say goodbye to him this week.

So, having high expectations all show and being letdown each and every performance, I am hoping they saved the best for last with Melanie Amaro. She better wow me, or the Michael Jackson episode is a complete bust. Two things first: she looked absolutely beautiful tonight and this girl has amazing vocals. Now with that being said, she needs to change it up one week and do something different...something with more pop.

Find out who will be sent home tomorrow night when The X Factor airs at 8/7c on Fox.
