America's Next Top Model Cycle 17

by Mike Bandy

Last night's episode of ANTM All-Stars started out just like all of them have - One girl was excited to have received best photo (Allison), one girl was worried about elimination after being in the bottom two (Angelea), and one girl had a potentially life-threatening medical emergency. Wait...that's not how they all start? Let me back up a bit...

Kayla's heart was racing and she was feeling woozy, so much that the producers stepped in and called an ambulance for her. Before the commercial break, it looked like the situation was dire, which is why that stupid Virgin Mobile couple really irked me. Voting a girl who, for all we knew, might be at death's door as Top Model Meltdown was ignorant. Anybody agree?

Anyway, it turned out that Kayla just had a cardiac arrhythmia most likely due to stress, and she's going to be fine. Thank goodness.

Oh, and bravo to Lisa for not partaking in wine with the rest of the ladies! Her time spent on Celebrity Rehab has clearly paid off.
Okay, let's get to the goodies here - the girls received packages from home, and most were excited about it...except Camille.

Camille's box was full of bills, because she's 33 and has different financial obligations than the rest of the women do. She's been working, but as she said, "the industry doesn't pay like it used to." Oh...you just knew she was going home from that statement, didn't you? I almost didn't have to watch the rest of the episode. Thank goodness I did, because as the Tyra Mail promised, "It would be a crime to miss this action."

The next day, the girls went to Stage 25 and met up with Mr. Jay for their audition for a role on CSI. With him was executive producer of CSI Anthony Zuiker. The winner of the challenge would appear in a fall episode of the show. The girls were given 30 minutes to memorize a scene, and most were having trouble with it. Camille was excited about doing it, though, because, "Whoever wins [the challenge] is gonna get paid."

Camille, along with a host of other girls, didn't do too well in the challenge, but it was Lisa who was named worst of the day by Jay. She didn't know any of the lines, and made excuses about being tired and not having enough time to memorize them. Meanwhile, Angelea and Bre were absolute stars. They both knew all their lines and, I know this is gonna come as a shock...were really great at acting! I was sure that Angelea would be the winner, but it turned out that Bre won the role, much to her excitement and Angelea's dismay. No doubt she called everyone back in the "716" to complain.

The next Tyra Mail read, "When you're a star, you have to express yourself." Everyone knew they'd be doing a photo shoot for Express, and the next day it turned out they would be posing with men, and each girl would have a persona they'd have to identify with.

Here's the highlights of what I thought was a pretty uneventful shoot - Laura & Allison are powerhouses, Dominique had on an amazing outfit, Angelea gave great face, and Camille just kinda stood there for most of the shoot. Bianca told Jay that "in the real world of modeling", you're not given a word to focus on, and out of all the girls, she's the model. Jay said that he hasn't seen model from her throughout the entire competition, which was a bit harsh, and I don't think it's true.

Meanwhile, Lisa was jumping around, posing, and not impressing Jay or the client at her shoot. I knew from the moment she jumped off the stairs that she'd be in the bottom two. Which brings us to...

Panel time! With Anthony Zuiker as guest judge, things kicked off with Laura, who was the star of her shoot, and in my opinion, the most fashion forward! I just love the dresses her grandma makes! Skipping ahead, Bre and Shannon were criticized for being too commercial (in a commercial ad campaign, yet. Go figure.), Alexandria looked too old, and Camille didn't look engaged, and as Tyra put it, wasn't bringing out her inner diva. Lisa made tons of excuses for her not so great photo to the panel, which turned them off, and Angelea's photo had everyone gasping for air (in a good way).

The deliberation round showed some pretty expected comments; Camille isn't bringing it, Allison's a doll, Lisa's crazy, etc. Would I be proven right about my pick for bottom two? Here's how the call-outs went:
1. Angelea
2. Dominique
3. Allison
4. Laura
5. Kayla
6. Shannon
7. Bre
8. Bianca
9. Alexandria

Sure enough, I called it. Lisa and Camille stood before Tyra to hear about how opposite they were in personality, but that they had excuses in common. Lisa is out there and crazy, while Camille is always in control (perhaps too much in control?). In the end, Lisa was spared (at this point, a friend of mine actually cheered. I wasn't watching it with her, but I know how these things go), and Camille was eliminated.

Camille was disappointed to be going home, but was proud of how far she'd come in the competition. She said that this wasn't the end of everything, and also thanked Tyra for the opportunity. Pretty standard stuff here.

So what did you guys think? Did you expect Camille to be going home? Did Angelea deserve best photo? And what about that attitude of Bianca's at the photo shoot? Most importantly - who's gonna win?!?! Tell me what you think in the comments.

See you next week!
