The Challenge: Rivals

by Gina Scarpa

If you heard you'd be traveling for free to Buenos Aires, Argentina, you'd be pretty excited, right? The cast of The Challenge: Rivals celebrated like they had just won the whole thing but MTV isn't going to take them somewhere else unless there's a damn good reason for it... and apparently, that reason is drama. Who knew there was a difference between Costa Rica drama and Argentina drama?

After one last wild party in Costa Rica, complete with togas, whipping one another, and Mike going postal over having cookies thrown at him, the gang heads to Argetina and moves into a beautiful villa. This seems like the perfect time to get wasted again. Seriously, I don't know how any of them can walk the next day, let alone compete in a challenge. Ah, youth.

Cara Maria, the girl everybody loves to gang up on, has a bottle of soda dumped on her head by the ever mature Wes. He then launches into her, telling her that nobody likes her and that sends her over the edge. I've never seen so much eye makeup run down someone's face in my life. Laurel decides she's had enough of the "Let's All Gang Up On Cara Maria" gang and goes to fight her battle for her.

When Paula drunkenly jumps in laughing about what just happened, Laurel loses her mind and goes all Cutthroat on her. She calls Paula anorexic, says she can't find a husband, can't have babies, and that she's old and still on reality tv. Now Paula is crying, which doesn't sit well with Tyler. While he tries to fight Paula's battle, the rest just sit around, unphased, watching it all go down.

Time to put it all aside because there's a challenge coming, which will determine which guys will be headed to the finale. For the girls, it's just competing for $2,000 - but hey, that's always nice! One team member hangs from a helicopter as it flies over water while the other climbs a rope to grab a cord, which releases them.

Every team did well, with the exception of CT and Adam, who finally stumble at the perfect time according to the Wes/Kenny/Johnny/Tyler alliance. Unfortunately for them, Leroy and Mike win (and Ev and Paula for the girls) which means one team from the alliance will have to face CT and Adam. And of course, neither one of them wants to do it.

Logically, Johnny and Tyler should go in because they haven't seen a jungle yet. They argue that they've performed consistently better than Wes and Kenny and have earned their spot in the finals. No time for politics and brainwashing, though. TJ wants a decision right then and there.

Paula and Ev are up first and Ev quickly says Johnny and Tyler, which pisses Tyler off because of his tight friendship with Tyler. Most follow suit and it ends up being 4-2 for Johnny and Tyler to go in.

Before the jungle, a night at the club seems like a good idea. Oh wait, it's not a good idea at all. The alliance decides to unleash psychological warfare on Adam, trying to unnerve him before he competes to stay in the game. When CT realizes what's going on, he storms over, only to be held back by everyone as he battles with Johnny.

To be continued...
