Celebrity Rehab Season 5

by Mike Bandy

Last week's episode of Celebrity Rehab ended with Bai Ling on the roof of the Center, and the attendants and Dr. Drew attempting to get her down. Last night, we saw the outcome: Shelly got up on the roof with her and was trying to get her down, which was successful. She didn't seem to understand what had happened and seemed distracted. Dr. Drew said that she needs to take her medication, because it's imperative to her safety.

The nurse was talking to Bai about her medication, and telling her that it might make her feel better. Bai was worried that she would become addicted to it and expressed reservations about taking it, but eventually agreed to do so. The nurse said that this was really the true beginning of her treatment, and I hope for Bai's sake that that's true.

Day 5 at the Center saw most of the patients' withdrawal symptoms subsiding. In group, Sean said she was feeling sad because she was going to say goodbye to an old friend, and she's not willing to allow that sadness. Dr. Drew said that most people heal by coming together with people and sharing emotions.

Amy said that treatment was one step above prison, and Steven said that he can't believe she shot someone and went to a jail that was as nice as rehab. Michael took issue with what she said, and stated that nobody there would be able to handle jail. He talked about horrible experiences he had, like pedophiles posting pictures of his daughter, and turmoil happening in his family that he could do nothing about. He even spoke about climbing a tree in the yard one day, in the hopes of being shot.

After this, he asked to leave group because he was so upset, and he became ill. Dr. Drew predicted that this was only the start of what we'd see out of Michael.

Meanwhile, Sean was really feeling sad, and told Dr. Drew that she's not okay with dealing with the "mountain of pain" she feels over what has happened to her in the industry. Dr. Drew said that she must learn to deal with her pain in small doses and then walk away from it, so she has a healthy way to regulate her feelings. She said that she doesn't want to have these feelings anymore, but Dr. Drew said that if she doesn't get them out, she'll never heal.

Most of the patients are starting to form relationships with each other, but they'd have a new patient to meet that day; Jessica "Sugar" Kiper, of Survivor fame. Jessica said that the second time she did Survivor, she wanted to commit suicide. Since then, she's been on a downward spiral with drinking and pills. In her meeting with Dr. Drew, she listed many drugs that she's tried or been addicted to, and said that she was raped when she was 15. She's got a lot of pain that she's dealing with, and Dr. Drew said that her withdrawal will not be easy.

On day 6, Dr. Drew arranged for the patients to go through equine therapy. Sean was very nervous because she fell off a horse when she was younger and broke her arm. They arrived at the stable, and were greeted by Wyatt, who was an addict for 21 years. He brought out a horse, and showed them how they'd be scraping out dirt from its shoe, but the purpose was to dig the dirt out from their minds.

Jessica was up first, and she had trouble squeezing the horse's leg, and it made her feel small. After talking with Wyatt, she said that she needed to be nurtured. Once she got that feeling out, she tried again and was able to scrape the horse's shoe.

This made Sean cry, and she said that falling off the horse affected her career. Wyatt put it all in perspective by saying that she did have other roles after that, and that the Batman role didn't make Kim Basinger's career. He gave her a brush, and Sean approached the horse cautiously. She was able to work with the horse beautifully, and by the end of it she was smiling.

The next morning at meditation, everyone was identifying what their issues were, but Amy didn't want to contribute. Steven attacked her for not identifying her alcoholism, and said that she shouldn't be there if she doesn't have a problem. Amy said she was trying really hard, and Shelly kicked Steven out of group. Shelly said Amy was doing well, but Steven felt otherwise. Amy broke down and said that she couldn't stay there.

Things come to a head at group next week - and it looks like Steven's causing issues again. Stay tuned!
