Celebrity Rehab Season 5

by Mike Bandy

It's time for another season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, where celebrities battling addiction come to the Pasadena Recovery Center in the hopes of beating their demons and getting sober once and for all. Now, before we get into the episode, let me state that although I'd normally be snarky and make jokes, I'm not going to do that with this show. It's serious subject matter and should be treated seriously.

The first to arrive was Amy Fisher, who is most famously known as the Long Island Lolita who shot the wife of her boyfriend in the face, and spent 6 years in prison for it. Since being released, she's gotten married and had three children, and has a career in porn. She's also got an alcohol addiction which causes her to black out every time she drinks.

When she met with Dr. Drew, Amy expressed her difficulty in living her daily life, with the tabloids always saying negative things about her, and she uses alcohol to cope. Dr. Drew said that she's avoiding some heavy feelings, and she said that it's hard for her to talk to people because she's afraid of being judged.

Next to arrive was Jeremy Jackson, who played Hobie Buchanan on Baywatch. His drug of choice was crystal meth, and he was once arrested for manufacturing it. After a stint in rehab, he got sober and wanted to be the next Sylvester Stallone, and tried to build up his body for that. Unfortunately, he turned to steroids, and now has a serious addiction to them. Jeremy said that he's spent upwards of $200K on injections, and cannot continue to live this way.

When he came into the Center, he brought a lot of luggage, and included was a water filtration system. When he was asked if he could drink bottled water, he said that the plastic in the bottles led to bisexuality. Ok, I know I said I wouldn't joke...but WHAT?!? Where is this study?? Anyhow, when he met with Dr. Drew, he listed about 10 to 15 different drugs he's used to build up his body, one of which is a drug given to cattle before slaughtering. Dr. Drew was worried that Jeremy would have significant withdrawal symptoms because he's on so many different chemicals.

Bai Ling arrived next, and when she got to the Center, she wrote in chalk on the sidewalk, "Grandmother, please protect me, fulfill my dreams," and lit a candle on the ground. She was too afraid to go in, so Shelly came out to get her. Upon meeting with Dr. Drew, Bai was crying and talking about how vulnerable she was, that she had no friends, and that drinking gave her courage. She also said that she felt dangerous and scared, and that she really needs help. There may have been something that happened in her childhood, but she wasn't ready to talk to Dr. Drew about it.

Michael Lohan, famous for being the father of actress Lindsay Lohan, arrived next. He was addicted to cocaine, but most recently has been having trouble with alcohol. He was arrested for insider trading when he was a stockbroker, and when he got out of prison, Lindsay was at the height of her career. The press did a lot of mudslinging, and he came out looking like a bad guy. Michael met with Dr. Drew and revealed that his father had passed away just five weeks before, and had died in his arms. He also said that he feels responsible for Lindsay's addiction, and feels guilty that their relationship isn't what it should be.

Sean Young, an actress who appeared in Blade Runner, No way Out, and Dune , arrived next. She has a serious problem with alcohol, and she was famously asked to leave an awards show for going on a drunken tirade. She's hoping that Drew can convince her that there's a solution that works better for her than alcohol. When she arrived, she asked Shelly who was at the Center, and upon hearing that Amy Fisher was there, she was a little worried because Amy tried to kill someone.

After that, Sean and Bai were smoking together and talking about how drinking got them through things, but there was one more person yet to arrive. Steven Adler was coming back for treatment, after being arrested for cocaine possession while appearing in Sober House back in 2008. The staff member whom he assaulted at the time, Jennifer, was told that he was coming back and had a full on panic attack. She views Steven as a monster when he's high, and she's not sure how well she'll be able to work with him.

It was at that moment that Steven was arriving at the Center.

The previews for the rest of the season promise to be tumultuous, unbelievable, and hopefully, promising for all the celebrities at the Pasadena Recovery Center. Here's hoping they all make it through the program.
