16 and Pregnant Season 3

by Allie Giffes

On this episode of 16 and Pregnant, we meet Jamie, a straight-A student with big dreams of going to college after she finishes off her last year of high school. She used to have every detail of her future planned out until her and her "rebel" boyfriend of one year, Ryan, found out that they're pregnant. They couple is having a girl, who they plan on naming "Maya."

Jamie's mother is concerned that her daughter doesn't know what she's in for, and warns that she must be prepared to do this alone. Jamie grew up without a father herself, but her mom is even more skeptical that Ryan can handle the stress of being a 17-year-old father. Jamie voices her concerns to Ryan, but he insists that he will be there for her and the baby.

Jamie's due date is coming up in a few weeks, and Ryan hasn't made it to any of her doctors' appointments. Over lunch, she expresses to Ryan how her stress is starting to overwhelm her.

There's a lot going on in Jamie's life right now. Her dad has a new family, didn't call her on her birthday and hasn't wanted to see her since she's gotten pregnant. Jamie decides to reach out to her dad one more time, so that when Maya comes, she's not surrounded by family drama.

Jamie's father agrees to meet up with her and Ryan. When they reunite, Jamie's dad seems surprisingly happy to see her and greets her with a big hug. When they have a minute alone, her dad explains that he needed time to accept that his daughter's pregnancy, but ultimately, he wants to be there for her.

It's the day of Jamie's shower at Ryan's stepmother's house. He was a big part of the planning process, so Jamie is really excited to see what's in store for her. Everything is perfect, except for the fact that Jamie's dad no-shows.

Jamie is going into labor, and Ryan is nowhere to be found - she suspects he's out partying, even though he had promised to cool it down. Five hours into labor, he finally decides to show up to the hospital. He comes up with a lame excuse for his absence, and Jamie can tell that he's been out partying. Bigger things to worry about, though! A few minutes later, Jamie is ready to start pushing, and soon after that - baby Maya is born.

On Jamie's second day home, Ryan shows up at her house expecting to spend time with the baby despite the fact that Jamie is upset with him. Ryan has a rather comical breakdown and stutters through his reasoning as to why he deserves to spend time with his daughter, even though he was out partying for most of the time his girlfriend was in labor. Jamie's mother walks in on their fight and puts Ryan in his place. Of course, this puts a great deal of stress on Jamie, who just wants Maya to have what she never was able to have - a father, and a drama-free family.

Jamie struggles to keep up with her schoolwork as she looks after Maya, and things are still rough between her and Ryan. He wants to bring the baby to his mom's house, but Jamie will only let him if she's able to come with them. She doesn't want to fight, but Ryan keeps pushing all the wrong buttons. Jamie doesn't want to keep Ryan away from his daughter, but being around him right now is just too stressful.

It's Jamie's first day back at school. Everything is overwhelming as is, but Jamie feels a weird vibe from everyone around her; and it doesn't take her very long to find out why. It turns out that Ryan has a new girlfriend who he's been seeing for months. She even suspects that he was with her the night she went into labor! If he thinks he'll see Maya anytime soon, he better think again.

Jamie confronts Ryan about the situation to let him know that she knows the truth, and also that she's filing for custody. Jamie had a lot of high hopes that didn't end up coming through in the end. Maybe they'll be able to settle everything in a civil manner in court, but until then Jamie is going to focus on being the best mom she can be for her daughter.
