America's Next Top Model Cycle 16

by Mike Bandy

Last night's ANTM began with our final five arriving in Marrakech, Morocco. Cut to the typical episodic buildup - Brittani reminisced about her days in the trailer park, Alexandria can change her ways, and Molly's pissed because she was in the bottom two. Meanwhile, Hannah said that she wants to be memorable, and Kasia was just happy to have the opportunity, because she's older, and she's had more experience than the other girls. ANTM can be a little predictable in the foreshadowing department sometimes.

The girls arrived in the middle of a huge marketplace and were watching some snake charmers, when BAM! The Jays appeared and talked to the girls about how important Morocco was to the fashion industry. They were going on a fashion tour of Marrakech, and would have a traditional Moroccan lunch as well. Then, all of a sudden, someone put a monkey on Alexandria and she freaked out.

After a lunch that all the girls seemed to enjoy, the girls went to Villa Amir, which is a couture fashion house, to try on oddly-made dresses for the designer and Andre Leon Talley. Brittani was really excited and walked in a dress made of wicker, Molly was upset because the dress was too heavy, Alexandria came out in some odd black thing that looked like it had Q-tips stuck to it, and she wore her socks, much to the chagrin of Andre, who made her go back and take them off. Hannah did reasonably well. Kasia couldn't fit into anything they tried on her, and that really upset her. She said that she felt they didn't want her there, and they had to search the whole store for something that fit her. However, Kasia was the only one who brought heels, and that impressed Andre.

After that, the girls went to a rooftop location, where Andre was waiting with tea. They talked about their time in the competition so far, and then were told that they were at their new house! The house was decorated beautifully, except there was one big bed for three girls to share, and Molly drew the short straw along with Brittani and Kasia. She was not at all happy about it, prompting the girls to talk about how Molly needs anger management.

TYRA MAIL! "You've made it this far, but you're not over the hump yet!" Any doubt that they'd have to deal with camels?

Sure enough, the next day the girls headed to the desert for a shoot on top of a camel, with Michael Woolley photographing. Brittani was up first and she did very well with her poses, though they were hard to maintain. Molly was next and her shots were beautiful; Jay thought she nailed the shoot from the start. Kasia's strategy was to give great body shapes, but she had some trouble on top of the camel. She told Jay that she was concerned with how her body looked and that was messing her up. Alexandria was up next, and the photographer thought she tried to over-direct the shoot, which is a common complaint about her. Hannah was last, and she was definitely memorable - she posed as though she were riding a bull, and the photographer loved it.

It's time for our first Moroccan panel, with editor in chief of Vogue Italia Franca Sozzani as guest judge. Brittani was up first, and most of the judges loved her shot, but Franca said it was too controlled. Alex was next, and Franca loved her shot, but the rest of the judges didn't. They also didn't like hearing that she over-directed again. Kasia was third, and her photo didn't really do it for the judges, who thought she looked self-conscious. Molly was next, and she made sure to smile the entire time. The judges loved her shot, as well as Hannah's, which looked different from the other girls' photos.

Here's how the call-outs went:
1. Molly
2. Brittani
3. Hannah

Will Kasia and Alexandria please step forward? Alex's photos aren't as strong as the other girls, her talent is spotty, andthey can't trust her demeanor. Kasia's film is also spotty, and she doesn't have confidence in her photos. Alexandria lived on another day, and Kasia was eliminated.

Kasia said she knew she'd be in the bottom two but didn't think she'd go home; she knew she could do better, and that was killing her. She said that she's not giving up and it's not over, it's just a bump in the road for her.
