The Celebrity Apprentice 4

by David McAlpine

Last night on The Celebrity Apprentice, it was the moment we've all been waiting for. The moment when ASAP goes up in flames because the superegos of everyone on that team finally collide, causing a massive game of "she said, she said" that ends in nothing but screaming. Eyes bulge, fingers point, and feelings get hurt. Is it bad that this is made so much better because they're celebrities?

Back fresh from the boardroom (mind you, the women have won yet again), NeNe is pissed about LaToya's comment that she would keep in touch with everyone on ASAP but NeNe after the show. NeNe says she can't understand what would motivate LaToya to say such a thing, even though anyone could rewind one of these episodes to hear NeNe talk some random smack about LaToya and her ineptitude.

This week's task: create a four-page magazine ad for Trump Hotels Collection (which, sorry if I'm wrong, but seems really, really familiar…as if it's been a challenge in every other season--can Trump get a little more creative?). It's still five on three, women versus men. Without the ball and chain that was Gary Busey, can the men pull out a win?

Star Jones, upon hearing the word "luxury," practically jumps at the chance to be the project manager for the women. Cut to the men, who are just looking at each other, feeling screwed again due to the creative nature of the task. It's only when John Rich reluctantly takes the lead that the men have someone to head up their advertising venture.

On the women's side, Star seemed to have everything under control. Literally. Everything. She's the ultimate control freak to the point that it's borderline scary. For instance, she tells NeNe and LaToya to get props. NeNe says she's not comfortable going with just LaToya. Star's response: they have to make up, no questions asked.

And guess what? After an apology session, the two team members are fine and are able to move on with the task. It seems like the women have this task in the bag, right?

The men don't seem to be doing any better, as Meat Loaf, John and Lil Jon stumble over what to do. John keeps trying to give the other two direction, but he's so unsure of himself that everyone becomes unsure of themselves and their role in everything. It's unraveling by the second.

Fast forward to the moment of truth. The women have a great concept of luxury, but make a very cluttered ad that's way too busy and doesn't really keep one overall theme. According to the magazine's ad director, it looks like a "cheap stripper ad." Not to mention the rousingly flat delivery during their presentation.

The men do everything they were told not to do. The executive told them to avoid butlers and building shots, and yet that comprises most of their ad. Their presentation is much more pleasurable, but just as disconnected. Their main flaw: no phone number or website.

Even with all that said, the magazine executive still picks the men as the winners, sending the women back into a downward spiral of fighting. Hope continually gets away with sitting in the background, and Marlee continues to add in her two cents here and there. But the real cesspool of fighting lies between Star, NeNe and LaToya.

Star goes after LaToya right away, calling her weak. LaToya responds right back, saying that she's more quiet and coy than she is weak, which Trump seems to agree with. Star keeps going after her, though, and decides to take her and NeNe back into the boardroom.

When it's just the three of them, Star goes for LaToya and LaToya goes for Star. So it all comes down to Ms. NeNe "I don't hold a grudge" Leakes. Will she see her newfound friendship as an opportunity to work together with someone down the road? Or would she keep the hypercontrolling, manipulative leader?

Well, in true NeNe fashion, she manages to insult both Star and LaToya, but says LaToya is weaker when it comes to business. It's two to one and Trump has no choice but to fire LaToya. She's not happy, but she takes it and walks out with her head held high. At least, until she makes it to the towncar, where she calls Star "cunning" and "evil."

The Celebrity Apprentice airs Sundays at 10/9c on NBC.
