American Idol Season 10

by Gina Scarpa

Things kick off on American Idol tonight with a performance of Train's "Soul Sister" by Jacob, Stefano, Hailey, and Lauren. The song sat well in all of their vocal ranges but they need to learn how to better relate to one another and perform together. Next up is a performance of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" by Casey, Scotty, and James. It worked better when they sang their solos - probably because it's not meant to be a group song.

After the performances, it's time for some results. Jacob and Casey stand up to find out their fate. Ryan asks Casey if the kiss with Jennifer was planned and he admits that originally, he was just going to breathe in her face. Thank goodness he didn't! How awkward would that have been? As Ryan said, America wants more of his soft lips. He's safe, while Jacob is in the bottom three.

Season 7 winner David Cook returns to the Idol stage to perform his newest single, "The Last Goodbye". His second album, The Loud Mourning, hits stores this June. It's not as good or as catchy as "The Time Of My Life" but hopefully, it will get some radio airplay.

A video montage is shown of the tough life of the remaining Idol contestants - from outings at Dodgers games to bowling trips to full on pampering. Can you feel my sarcasm through your computer screen?

The next two to find out their results are Lauren, James, and Stefano. His performance of "Closer" just didn't do it for fans and Stefano joins Jacob in the bottom three. The other two head back to the land of safe couches.

Hailey and Scotty head to the center of the stage to face the music... and Ryan. For a minute, it seemed that Scotty could be in the bottom three, given that Hailey sang such a popular song this week but never underestimate the female fans. They saved their precious country singer and sent Hailey to the bottom three.

Two seconds later... and I mean literally two... Ryan calls Hailey back to the center of the stage, then sends her to safety. She must have just had a mini heart attack!

Before we find out what America has decided, Katy Perry performs her smash hit, "E.T." sans Kanye - so we thought!  He surprises everyone by showing up halfway through the song.  I have to admit: I'm shocked they got him.

After a commercial break, the decision is handed down by Ryan.  The person leaving Idol tonight is... Stefano.  The wild card is out of the competition.  Did America get it right?

Be sure to tune in when the Top 6 take the stage on American Idol, Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX.
