The Real Housewives of New York City Season 4

by Mike Bandy

Last night, RHONYC began with Sonja at her house getting ready for the Equality March. The Countess came over, and they got to talking about the wedding dresses they would wear. Sonja said that she was the grand marshal of the march. Kelly showed up next, and then Alex showed up and thanked everyone for coming out to support the march.

Sonja kept talking about how she was the grand marshal of the march and how she was giving a speech, and Alex was very annoyed by that. She thought that Sonja was making the day about her, when it was supposed to be about a cause. She also said that marriage is an emotional thing, and wearing a wedding gown gets you in the right frame of mind for that, but the girls didn't want to hear that. They wanted to be campy and have fun!

At the actual march, there were TONS of people, but Simon was the highlight for me, in his Elton John-esque rainbow sequined coat, with his arms around two men. He's really not doing much to help the gay rumors is he? That's a bunch of hogwash. He's a guy who's comfortable with himself, and he supports the gay cause. Say what you want - I dig him!

Now, back to the important stuff - there was a kerfuffle because Alex got a call from the organizers stating that Sonja would only participate in the march if she could be grand marshal and if she were the only one to speak. Simon was supposed to speak at the rally, but he was not able to unless Sonja said it was okay, and she would not. Alex was getting in Sonja's face about it, and so was Simon, and that upset her. Sonja felt it was the wrong time to be confronted about it, and I have to say I agree. What Sonja did (allegedly, anyway) was underhanded and awful, but Alex probably could have waited until after the march to bring it up.

Meanwhile, Jill showed up with her dog, and she was greeted warmly by most of the women, and then she turned on Alex, seemingly out of nowhere! She said that she felt Alex didn't know she was coming and insisted on confronting her about it, and then screamed at Alex to stop picking on her and leave her alone. Alex, taken aback, said, "Okay...I'm glad you're here." The woman hadn't said anything when Jill arrived to begin with, so I think she overreacted. But then, when doesn't she.

Sonja finally got to give her speech, and to be frank, I don't know WHY she wanted to be the only one to speak. Her speech was jumbled, weird, and a little inappropriate. Alex thought she confused gay marriage with gay pride, and I agree. As a gay man, I wouldn't want to go to an Equality March and hear someone say, "It's raining men!" It's offensive. But the march went off without a hitch anyway.

Hey there, Cindy! She's talking to her brother, Howie, about what happened at the wedding with Ramona. Cindy was a little surprised that Ramona acted that way, and I think there may be some drama brewing between them. The foreshadowing is intense, y'all!

Meanwhile, after the march, the women all went back to Alex's house. She and Jill had a short conversation, and Jill said that she doesn't want to focus her energy on negative stuff and wants to work on their friendship, which is a pretty far cry from calling the woman a bitch at the wedding reception. Thank goodness this was all we saw of Jill the entire episode. Alex said that she didn't know how she felt, but she's willing to talk about it. I don't think these women were meant to be friends, and they should just leave well enough alone.

Sonja was at her boyfriend Brian's studio, and he was painting a portrait of her that she didn't like. It wasn't even done yet, so most of what I'm currently typing is mute. Let's get to the lunch Sonja had with the Countess, where they talked about Alex and what happened at the march. Sonja felt disrespected, and Countess LuAnn thinks that now that Alex has found her voice, she needs to zip it.

Hey, Ramona! You're at a charity event honoring Mr. Gucci himself, and most of the girls were invited...except Kelly. Ramona didn't want Kelly embarrassing her at the table she'd spent so much money on. Alex and Ramona discussed what happened at the march, and Alex didn't want to sit next to Sonja.

Kelly showed up anyway, with Sonja, because Gucci himself had invited her. Ramona was peeved but gracious, especially since it turned out Kelly couldn't stay for dinner, and all were seated. Sonja took the opportunity to talk about Alex as if she wasn't sitting there, and she said that she would NOT be disrespected that way again! Come on...wasn't a confrontation between these two inevitable?

It finally came the night of Sonja's art party. Alex arrived and tried to be cordial, but Sonja cut right to the chase and said that she didn't want Alex's husband, in her ear like that ever again. Alex's jaw dropped, and it was ON! The discussion degenerated into a shouting match, with Sonja saying that Alex has the worst manners and dismissing everything she said, and Alex trying to get her point across and getting louder by the minute.

At the end of it, Sonja kicked Alex out of her house, and as she was leaving, the Countess and Kelly showed up. Alex left and called Simon to tell him what happened, while the three women still left in the house babbled about how awful and inappropriate Alex was.
HERE COMES THE PAINTING! AND IT'S...wait...really?? I don't know how long Brian's been an artist, or what kind of image he was going for, but what he got was Sonja fully clothed (she said she'd be nude), and sitting in a position that looked like she might give birth at any moment. It was pretty awkward, but of course, the women had to be nice and say that it was beautiful. I totally got heartburn.
