America's Best Dance Crew Season 6

by Danae Young

This week on the season 6 premiere of America’s Best Dance Crew, the first five dance crews perform and already one sadly gets sent home!

This is the season of the superstars! Each week will feature a track from a different musical artist. Tonight is the Lil Wayne episode.

I aM mE, Phunk Phenomenon, ReQuest, Eclectic Gentlemen and Street Kingdom were the first five crews introduced and they started off the show with an exciting group performance.

Lil Mama and JC Chasez are back as judges, but this season they are joined with a new judge, D-Trix.

I aM mE from Houston, Texas was first up to perform to Lil Wayne’s “Right Above It.” This crew loves to inspire, motivate and energize. They take visual inspirations from everyday things to put in their dances. D-Trix thinks they are really clever and liked that they took it to the next level. Lil Mama noticed that they did a good job of giving illusions without forgetting to dance. JC Chasez said they are very clean and he is looking forward to more.

Next up was Phunk Phenomenon from Boston, Massachusetts dancing to “A Milli” by Lil Wayne. This crew is filled with organized chaos. They dance from their hearts but they are still goofy and like to have fun. Lil Mama said they danced like they meant it. JC Chasez liked that they made sure the only girl in the group had her moment to shine. D-Trix compared their dance to a rollercoaster. All of the different styles created ups and downs in the performance, which he liked.

ReQuest, an all-girl crew from Auckland, New Zealand, came all the way to California to show America what they are made of. They performed their dance to Lil Wayne’s “Knockout.” In their dancing they use a lot of cultures and customs from their homeland, as well as a dance they call “pollyswag.” JC Chasez thought they started off explosively and loved the theatre of their dance. D-Trix said they had no weaknesses to hide. Lil Mama expressed their performance as sexy meets heavy, which is a secret lethal weapon.

Eclectic Gentlemen from North Hollywood, California performed to “Fireman” by Lil Wayne. They call themselves “sexy guys in bow ties” because they take pride in how they look. D-Trix likes where their mindset is. Lil Mama thought there was a lot of diversity. JC Chasez said they went from hard to smooth effortlessly but sometimes they got stiff.

Street Kingdom from Los Angeles, California performed to Lil Wayne’s “I Am Not a Human Being.” This krumping crew rehearses in their local church. They say dancing as a Christian brings a stereotype and they want to set the record straight. Lil Mama felt their energy and liked that they found a way to bring krumping into the choreography. JC Chasez applauds them for using their power for good. D-Trix wanted to point out that we are all witnessing history. One of the members of the crew, Tight-Eyez, created krumping. D-Trix even gave them a standing ovation.

After an insane night of great performances, the judges chose to eliminate Eclectic Gentlemen. Unfortunately the bow ties weren’t enough to keep them in the competition.
