America's Next Top Model Cycle 16

by Mike Bandy

Last night on ANTM, Alexandria was happy to have been called first, and she wanted to redeem herself if anybody took her attitude the wrong way. Sara said that being in the bottom two was really depressing. She's a feminist, and feels like she's less of a woman than the rest of the girls, mostly because of her makeover.

The girls were having a conversation about what would happen after ANTM, and Sara said that she would go back to school. Alexandria said that she'll be in NY whether she wins or not, and questioned Sara's motivation for being in the competition.

This didn't last too long, because it was time for TYRA MAIL!!!! This one read: "If you don't watch your step, your career will go up in flames."

The next day, the girls met Miss Jay for a fashion show, where they'd be wearing Lady Gaga designer Geoffrey Mac designs. The catch: they'd be walking on a runway with fire alongside it, and would actually have to light themselves on fire! Most of the girls were pretty nervous; Molly said she didn't know how they would do it without dying. This was a challenge, and the winner would receive two dresses from the designer's collection. A whiz of hair and makeup ensued, including the removal of Molly's disastrous weave, and then the show began.

Most of the girls did okay; Alexandria opened the show, and held her own, Brittani was very composed and had a great walk, and Dalya was very elegant. A few girls struggled; Sara had trouble getting ignited, Kasia's walk had too much open-mouthedness to it, and Hanna needed more presence. Dalya was the winner of the challenge...and Hannah, Kasia, and Sara got to practice working on their runway walks by walking home. Ouch.

Once they arrived from their trek, the girls got another Tyra Mail, which read: "Tomorrow it's okay for you to cause a scene."

Brittani said that she thought they'd have to act, and she wasn't looking forward to it. Sure enough, the girls had scripts waiting at the door for them, which they had to memorize by the next day. It was a commercial for Fierce Roast Coffee, and they were playing the part of a 50s/60s secretary, and had a lot of sexual undertones. Sara was instantly uncomfortable with the idea, being a feminist, and she said that she's spent her whole life trying to get away from the image of the docile subservient woman.

It's off to Smashbox again, and there's Jay Manuel to help direct the commercial, along with famed Italian photographer and director Francesco *swoon* Carrozzini. Molly said she had a crush on him...and...um...this recapper agrees. Anywho, the girls would be paired up for this commercial, and hair and makeup involved fake books, fake butts, and lots and lots of short dresses. Yay, feminism!

Sara said she was embarrassed to have her femcore friends back home see this commercial, and wasn't sure she'd do well. She had time to worry about it, because Alexandria and Brittani were up first. Brittani said that she knew that acting would be her weak point, and she didn't really shine in the commercial. Alexandria was over-directing everyone, and Carrozzini said that she would have been sent home on a real commercial shoot.

Kasia and Jaclyn were up next, and did a great job. Molly and Dalya took direction very well, and Monique and Hannah did well too, except for when Monique forgot the name of the coffee.

Then it was time for Sara and Mikaela, and their commercial didn't go very well. Mikaela's hand kept shaking, and Sara kept putting her thumb in the coffee cup, and didn't deliver the lines believably. Carrozzini said that she didn't believe in the whole thing from the beginning, and he wasn't thrilled with her performance. Sara said that it was hard for her to fake sexual energy, because she's never had to fake anything in her life.

At panel, with Carrozzini as guest judge, Alexandria was called out for her attitude again, Kasia was praised for her stellar performance, and Sara didn't really add anything to the commercial, according to Andre Leon Talley. Molly had a new weave, which Tyra said was, "Almost there!" Also, Jaclyn had a booty-shaking moment with Tyra. Standard procedure at panel, right? After deliberations, here were the call-outs:

1. Kasia
2. Hannah
3. Jaclyn
4. Dalya
5. Monique
6. Molly
7. Mikaela
8. Brittani

Alexandria and Sara (who said "One last walk" on her way down) were called up as the bottom two. Sara is lovely and has an interesting face and has a great energy, but lacked confidence in her commercial. Alexandria did a decent job, but has a bad attitude. Sara was ultimately eliminated, but Tyra warned Alex that this would be the last time she'd be told about her attitude.

Sara said that she was shaking her finger at herself, and if she couldn't muster the sexual energy then she wasn't doing her job properly, and that's her own fault.
