Survivor: Redemption Island

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on Survivor: Redemption Island, tree mail arrives asking tribes to pick two members to attend the battle between Matt and Kristina. For Zapatera, Stephanie and Krista will attend while Rob and Grant represent Ometepe.

Toinght's duel is a puzzle. The first person to arrange all their puzzle pieces in the shape of a cube will win and stay on the island to wait for the next competitor. The loser gets to toss their buff in a fire. During the challenge, Probst asks Rob why he voted out Matt to which he smartly responds, "It doesn't take one person to vote someone out. You know that." Genius. Matt messes up his puzzle the first time around but doesn't make the same mistake twice. He wins again - this guy is a force to be reckoned with.

Before Stephanie and Krista leave, they make a bold move and offer to team up with Ometepe if they make it to the merge.

While Grant and Rob are away, Phillip tries to make connections with the women in his tribe but fails miserably. His only opening is with Andrea, who is still seeking revenge after Matt's blindside at the first tribal council. Two people aren't really going to make an impact, though, unless they can find a crack in Rob's seemingly airtight alliance.

Ah, a blindfold challenge. In this immunity/reward challenge, one person calls out directions to blindfolded players who are trying to retrieve puzzle pieces. The prize is coffee and pastries because clearly, Survivor isn't too worried about nutritional value here. Since the caller is also responsible for solving the puzzle, Boston Rob naturally steps up for his tribe while Stephanie's loud mouth is chosen by her tribe.

Choosing Rob was clearly the right decision. Not only does he quickly realize that he accidently dropped a puzzle piece but he solves the word puzzle, spelling out "The Sweet Taste of Victory". Oh, did Ometepe need it!

Back at their camp, Grant spots a clue in the coffee grinds and he and Rob run off together to take a look. Grant realizes it looks shady so Rob sends him back to camp and pulls a genius move, switching his first clue with the new clue. Grant is none the wiser and will be searching endlessly for a clue that was found days ago.

At Zapatera, it seems that the plan is obvious: send Krista or Stephanie to Redemption Island. However, Sarita mentioned in her interview that she wishes she could vote out David while Russell's ladies are hoping to take a shot at getting Steve out of the game.

With no time to strategize before tribal council, it seems obvious how this night is going to play out.  Krista tries pointing out that eventually, the alliance of six will have to turn on each other.  Any Survivor with a brain has already thought about that so she doesn't bring anything shocking or new to the table.

When the votes are read, it's Krista who will head to Redemption Island to face the seemingly unstoppable Matt.
