The Biggest Loser 11: Episode 9 Recap

Last night on The Biggest Loser, it's the contestants' first chance to leave the ranch and test out their weight-loss skills at home. Not only will they be losing the support of the ranch, though, they'll also be surrounded by all the old temptations that brought them on the show in the first place. After two weeks at home, they'll all be competing in a 5K.

Everyone is welcomed home in open arms, but the temptations are thrust upon them immediately. Courtney goes back to work in her family's ice cream shop, but she refuses to eat any of it, keeping her eye on the prize. Austin celebrates his birthday with friends at a bowling alley, but doesn't eat any cake, even though his friends want him to treat himself.

Arthur gets a little encouragement from his recently-eliminated dad, giving him the confidence and the courage to train hard for the 5K. Olivia starts commuting into Central Park to train, while the rest of Black is right behind her, training just as hard.

Jen, the sole original Black Team member on the Red Team, is very concerned, so she's training extra hard. She knows she has no alliances and she wants to avoid putting herself in a vulnerable position. Kaylee and Moses rally their town around them to train for the 5K, hoping a group effort can push them over the edge.

However, the 5K isn't the challenge everyone was hoping for. Instead of being an immunity challenge for team, it's a reward challenge for trainer picking! The order of picking would be in the order of finish for the 5K, meaning the teams themselves might get reshuffled. Arthur and Sarah are the last two to cross the finish line, Sarah lagging behind because she doesn't want to make a choice.

Justin, Rulon and Kaylee stick with Brett and Cara on Red. Jen switches back to Bob and Jillian on Black, while Austin, Moses and Ken stay with Red. Marci, Olivia, Hannah, Irene and Courtney all return to black leaving two people (Sarah and Arthur), but only one spot on each team. Second-to-last place Sarah chooses Black, leaving Arthur to fall onto the Red Team. Looking back to what he did to Jen and Jay, this almost seems like karma, but in a convoluted way.

After an intense last-minute workout with the trainers, it was time for the weigh-in:

Black Team
Marci: -14 (-7.73%)
Jen - 14 (-6.64%)
Olivia: -12 (-5.94%)
Hannah: -11 (-5.70%)
Irene: -10 (-5.13%)
Sarah: -10 (-4.90%)
Courtney: -10 (-3.91%)
Total: -81

Red Team
Rulon: -17 (-4.63%)
Arthur: -16 (-3.94%)
Austin: -10 (-3.34%)
Justin: -8 (-2.96%)
Ken: -5 (-1.72%)
Moses: -5 (-1.55%)
Kaylee: -1 (-0.56%)
Total: -62

Immediately, it was double heartbreak. Not only was the Red Team going to the elimination room, but Arthur narrowly missed grabbing immunity, putting him in a very vulnerable position. Marci breaks down because she promised Jesse she would protect Arthur, while Sarah feels guilty for putting him in that situation.

In the end, the Red Team opts to stick together, not risking Arthur doing the same thing he did to Jen and Jay to one of them. Arthur leaves with his head held high and ready to face the world, no matter how much he didn't deserve to leave.

At home, Arthur is now down to 345 pounds, almost halfway down from his peak of 646. He hopes to reach 250 pounds lost by the finale.

The Biggest Loser airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
