Survivor: Nicaragua

by Gina Scarpa

Last night on Survivor: Nicaragua, the elements start to wear down some of the competitors. There are some seasons when it looks like the players are on a tropical vacation for a month and there are others where it just looks like hell out there. However, for those still left in the game, you've made it this far... you gotta stay strong for a few more days!

Feeling overwhelmed with the game, NaOnka decides to start checking out and hands over her idol to Chase. She better not change her mind because I'm pretty sure he's not giving it back. Purple Kelly is also feeling like it's time to head home and debates just telling Jeff she's quitting.

In tonight's reward challenge, players are split into two teams (Fabio, Sash, Jane, and Purple Kelly vs. Holly, NaOnka, Chase, and Benry) in a schoolyard pick. Dan was not chosen and sits out, backing Benry's blue team. The teams had to rescue a 8 foot, heavy dummy named Gulliver that was tied up on a table. Once they have him released, they must carry him through an obstacle course. The winning team gets to see an exclusive preview of Jack Black's new movie "Gulliver's Travels". The teams were neck and neck the entire time but in the end, Dan made the right decision. The blue team wins!

Following the challenge, NaOnka tells Jeff that this will be her last day in the game and Purple Kelly jumps right on board and says she'll be leaving as well. Understandably, Probst is not thrilled and makes an attempt with each to try to get them to stay. He asks them to take the afternoon to think and if they want to still quit later that night, they can walk out of tribal council.

The surprising moments aren't over yet. Before the blue team leaves for their reward, Jeff tells them that if one of them will give up the reward and stay behind, the entire tribe can have a new tarp and rice to get them through the last 11 days. Now, it would make sense for NaOnka to step up. She's been a villain all season and, according to her, she's leaving later that night but it's Holly who steps into the hero role even though she wanted that food so badly. While she explains her decision, Benry tries to convince Na to take Holly's place but she won't do it. Horrible person. The worst. Who wants to bet she's not really leaving?

Back at camp, Mama Holly gave Purple Kelly a pep talk to try to keep her in the game. Between giving up the reward, her compassion for others, and her strong willed personality, I think she just became my top person that I want to see win this game!

Side note regarding the blue team at the reward: You know what's not good for people who haven't been eating for almost a month? Hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and soda. Just sayin.

Later that night, everyone heads to tribal council to find out what NaOnka's and Purple Kelly's decisions will be. Holly tries again to motivate the girls to stay and play. Jane also says the girls need to have that willingness to go forward and get it done. After Na and Kelly both say why they want to quit, Jeff has a great moment when he asks Na if she really thought she had any chance of winning this game. She actually thinks she did!

Time for decisions.  NaOnka quits.  Hooray!  Purple Kelly quits.  Boo!
