Top Chef: Just Desserts

After a sweet (and sufficiently sassy) inaugural season of Top Chef: Just Desserts, it's finale time. The last cheftestants standing are Morgan, Yigit and Danielle. Morgan and Yigit have been longtime favorites, while Danielle has largely hidden under the radar.

No guest judge this week. It's just Gail in the kitchen to unveil the final challenge. The three finalists must create a progressive, four-course dessert tasting for some of the biggest names in the pastry world.

The chefs are treated to cocktails and a trio of upscale desserts with Johnny, who suggests meeting the chefs behind these creations. It soon becomes clear that the finalists will be teamed up with these legendary chefs for the final challenge. The cheftestants draw cookies (duh), and Yigit gets Sherry Yard, Danielle teams up with Elizabeth Faulkner and Morgan with Claudia Fleming.

Claudia seems annoyed with Morgan, adding her name to the long list of people that have been annoyed by Morgan this season.

On day two, the chefs are surprised with the news that their celebrity sous chefs are being replaced with former competitors. Yigit teams with Tim, Danielle with Tania and Morgan with his (not) bff, Heather H. The latter pairing is particularly hilarious.

After a mostly-successful final service, the three finalists meet the judges for the last time. Danielle's ice-cream sampler and honey candy were huge hits, but her chocolate cake with a flavorless garnish was less successful.

Yigit's sorbet and ice cream dish was sufficient, but his major moment was his braised pineapple, which all the judges loved.

Morgan's collapsed soufflé was a miss from the start, but his other three courses, including one of his signature macaroons, fared much better with the judges.

After a difficult decision, Gail declares Yigit the winner of Top Chef: Just Desserts. I'm happy with this news, the other cheftestants are obviously thrilled with this news, but Yigit - most of all - seems genuinely overjoyed. What a sweet guy. (Had to go out with one, last pastry pun!)
