America's Next Top Model Cycle 15

by Mike Bandy

Last night's episode of America's Next Top Model began with the girls on the bus after elimination. Kayla said that being on Top Model is a dream for her, Ann said that she feels like a model after having the best photo for 4 weeks in a row, and Chelsey expressed that this competition is her last chance at a modeling career.

Back at the house, the girls get a Tyra Mail that says, "Ding Dong". The doorbell rings, and a big pink bag appears at the door. Inside, there are Cover Girl Smoky Eye Look kits. The girls are put into assigned groups, and each group is required to be the face of the product the next day. Team 1 were Ann, Kendal, and Jane; Team 2 were Kacey, Kayla, and Esther; Team 3 were Liz, Chris, and Chelsey.

Next, the girls went to a WalMart parking lot, where they met Nigel. Their challenge was to show the public what it means to be a Cover Girl by taking the information they received about the Cover Girl Smoky Eye Look kits, and explaining them to a crowd. The winning team would receive a shopping spree in the Cover Girl aisle at WalMart.

On Team 1, Ann was really uncomfortable and didn't interact with people a lot. Team 2 did well, and Kacey was very talkative. On Team 3, Chris did a lot of the talking and interrupted Chelsey. Evaluating the girls along with the rest of the audience was Derek Blasberg, a fashion journalist. At the end of the challenge, Nigel said that he would be interviewing everyone in the crowd to determine which girl they thought did the best, and the girls got to watch while it happened.

Ann had the lowest score for being quiet and uncomfortable, Kayla talking about being a sporty girl made one guy want to recommend Cover Girl to his sporty sister. Chris was called overbearing, and the crowd felt bad for Chelsey, who didn't get a chance to speak. Team 2 was the winning team, and during their Cover Girl spree, each girl had to create a cover girl look. Nigel voted Esther's the best, and she won a $1,000 gift card for WalMart.

Later, the girls got a Tyra Mail that said, "Tomorrow will be no walk of shame, but rather a walk of fame", and the next day they met up with Mr. Jay on Rodeo Drive, where they would be taking what he called the most prestigious photo shoot in Top Model History. Lori Goldstein, a prominent fashion stylist, styled the girls, and their photographer was the world-famous Patrick Demarchelier. The photo shoot was a group shot with two girls and a male model, followed by a "walking shot" of each girl.

The groups were: Kayla & Esther, Kacey & Jane, Kendal & Liz, Chelsea & Ann, and Chris was by herself. Tyra came to the photo shoot to help direct. Notable girls in this shoot were Ann, who seemed stiff on set and uncomfortable with all the people around; Esther, who impressed Patrick Demarchelier with her subtleness; and Kendal, who stole the frame in the group shot with her great movement.

Next up was panel, with guest judge...you guessed it, Patrick Demarchelier!

Some girls who did very well at panel were Kendal, who drew in Nigel's eyes with her shot; Jane, whom Andre said looked like "an extraordinary French actress" in her shot; and Ann, who had wonderful shots, but Nigel warned that she must make her public love her, and to show her personality. Girls who didn't do so well were Kayla, whom Tyra said showed all of her pain from the tight shoes on her face; Liz, whose photos looked like she was making fun of the shoot; and Kacey, whose photos lacked life in her eyes.

During deliberation, the judges said that Kendal was natural, and had the best movement, Jane does best in a group, and that Ann has great international looks, but no personality.

Call outs were as follows: Ann (for the 5th week in a row), Jane, Kendal, Esther, Chris, Chelsey, and Liz. Kacey and Kayla were in the bottom two, and Kacey was eliminated for being disconnected in her photos. Tyra said that Kacey has the goods, but needs more time before she's ready for international work. Kacey said she felt defeated and drained out, and that she's never gonna get over being eliminated.
