Survivor: Nicaragua

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on Survivor: Nicaragua, it's all pleasantries between the members of La Flor following their explosive tribal council. Only NaOnka seems to be on to the BS that everyone is spewing but this game is a social one and playing nice will get you far. Over at Espada, Marty refuses to let go of the idea that Jimmy Johnson needs to go. Trying to earn trust and gain clout in his tribe, he reveals that he found the hidden immunity idol. Some, like Jimmy T, applaud his honesty while others, like Tyrone, think he's up to no good.

In tonight's immunity challenge, both tribes had to race into a field to collect 10 barrels and then arrange them on individual platforms. From there, players must take turns, throwing beanbags on top of the barrels. The first team to get all 10 wins. La Flor passes on the Medallion of Power, which would give them 2 barrels automatically. The stakes are high... and get even higher when Probst reveals that it's a reward challenge as well with a Survivor garden, full of fruits, herbs, and spices up for grabs.

Cocky La Flor may have gotten off to a quick start but Espada quickly catches up. Benry and Tyrone are the stars of this challenge, landing beanbag after beanbag. MVP Benry does enough, though, to give La Flor the win.

As La Flor arrives back at camp, NaOnka sees that a clue to the hidden immunity was hidden in the basket that she was carrying with Kelly B. She reacts like any insane Survivor player - by shoving Kelly B to the ground, snatching the clue, and running off. In her interview, she said that she hoped her leg flew off. This is a teacher speaking. One who works with children. What an embarrassment.

At Espada heads into tribal, it's all coming down to Jimmy Johnson and Dan.  Marty's and Jimmy T's egos can't handle the fact that a superstar football coach is stealing their thunder.  Problem is - there's no thunder to steal.  Neither one could lead the Espada tribe on the best day of their lives.  Dan, on the other hand, is being brought up for his injured knee and not delivering in challenges.  Now, that makes more sense... but nobody said Survivor players were rational.

During tribal council, the egos make themselves heard.  Jimmy T has the balls to say that perhaps he's a threat to Jimmy Johnson, which makes Tyrone (and everyone watching at home) laugh.  Jill... yeah, she's on the show... calls out Dan for being a little slow around camp and questions his ability to bring it during challenges.  Marty says it's time to accelerate the game because there's been too much waiting around.  Dude, it's been 8 days.

When the votes are read, Espada's egos prevail and Jimmy Johnson is voted out of the game.  As much as I've been looking forward to talking to him this season, I was hoping it was at least a few more weeks off...
