Shannon Elkins from Survivor: Nicaragua

by Gina Scarpa

Shannon Elkins may be gone on Survivor: Nicaragua but he won't soon be forgotten.  No sooner did Jeff Probst get his first question out during last night's tribal council that Shannon exploded, attacking everyone from alliance members to innocent bystanders in the La Flor tribe.  If you thought that just because his torch got snuffed, he learned to keep his mouth shut, think again.  Today, we spoke to the outspoken Survivor in an exclusive interview about his experiences on the show and his thoughts on... well, just about everything!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When did your interest in applying for Survivor first begin and why did you want to do the show?
A. Shannon: I went with Bo, who is a friend of mine, to the Survivor: Fiji finale in New York and met some casting people. That was back in 2007. My family became big fans of the show and they were like, "If you think you can do it, go ahead and do it." Actually, it was the first time I ever camped or had rice. I had never done any of that before.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Really? Did you do any preparation before heading out into the game?
A. Shannon: I put on about 10-15 pounds

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think splitting up the tribes by age was a good idea?
A. Shannon: I think it was a stupid idea. Whoever did that and came up with the Medallion of Power should be fired. You put a grownup with some kids and they knew I was gonna stick out. You put me next to Fabio or Benry and I stick out like a sore thumb. They're like, "Damn, this dude is a threat, he has to go." They did the right thing by voting me out. I knew I was going home. Nothing could've changed anybody's mind. Chase had a rose he was giving out to Brenda. He's in love - most pathetic thing I've ever seen in my life. She's playing him the whole time!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Are there people from the Espada tribe that you wish you could've played the game with or aligned with?
A. Shannon: Did you see my original tribe? We had a kickass tribe! I didn't want to separate. I had Jimmy Johnson, a hall of fame coach. I would've taken him to the end. In this 30 year old body, I got 50 years worth of knowledge. I get along better with older people and I relate more with them because I have a lot more in common. If they had put me with the older tribe, we could've done some damage.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you think about the comments La Flor made about Kelly B. and her prosthetic leg?
A. Shannon: Man, I think that's some chickensh--. That's just wrong. You don't go after somebody for a disability. She was born that way. That girl deserves the money. I don't agree with what they said at all.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Probst has been saying that a lot of players this season are talking themselves right out of the game. Do you think you talked yourself out of the game?
A. Shannon: Let me explain to you about Jeff Probst. For him to say that is a crock of sh--. He knew that I was going home. He heard what everyone was saying even before we stepped foot in tribal council. He knew I was going home. I could've just sat there like a robot and pretended like Brenda was going home but I knew I was going home.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Looking back, how do you feel about your comment to Sash?
A. Shannon: I wasn't bashing anybody gay. I was just saying he's going to lie to you in the game. I was straight shooting.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel satisfied with your experience on Survivor? Is it something you'd ever do again?
A. Shannon: First of all, yeah I'm satisfied. I'll tell you like I told everybody else. CBS doesn't have it in them to put me on another show.
