In the second hour of MasterChef, the final five head out on a boat to catch fish for their supper. It was all fun and games until they found out that their later on, their dishes would be served to three of the most notoriously tough food critics in the country - Jeffrey Steingarten (Food Editor for Vogue), Tayna Steel (Editor of Epicurious.com), and Barbara Fairchild (Editor-In-Chief for Bon Appetit). The chefs were full of nervous excitement but it probably should've just been one healthy dose of fear.
Whitney was up to bat first with the panel, who found her dish overpowered with salt and garlic. Tanya came down hard on David for choosing to make Israeli cous cous for his dish when he's never made it before. Lee's food was a hit with Barbara but Jeffrey countered that the fish had no taste. Well, how good could it be then? Sheetal made a huge mistake, forgetting to check her fish for bones. Sharone and his ego talk were up last and lemme tell ya. Nobody likes to hear Sharone talk more than Sharone. To make matters worse, the critics called his dish "bland".
The highest scoring dish came from David, who received an 11.5 out of 12. Surprised? You're not alone - but it was a pleasant surprise. The bottom two, who had to face the Pressure Test in order to make it to the final four, were Sharone and Whitney. Back in the MasterChef kitchen, the bottom two were presented with ingredients to make a perfect souffle... and it started to look like Sharone was in trouble.
Whitney thankfully got her chocolate souffle with orange zest to the judges with seconds to spare. Sharone was right behind her with a chocolate souffle with sea salt. I'm pretty sure I do not want salt on my souffle - but this one came down to the judges and not me in my living room! Whitney's souffle reigned supreme and she joined Sheetal, David, and Lee in the final four. Sharone has officially been knocked off his high horse. I think.
