So You Think You Can Dance Season 7

by Danae Young

This week on So You Think You Can Dance, six people still remain because last week no one was sent home. This means that the pressure is even higher this week since two will be going home Thursday.

The good news is that nobody is injured this week! That’s a first!

Joining the judges tonight was guest judge Toni Redpath.

Once again, the contestants danced three times tonight: once with an all-star, once with another contestant, and a solo dance that they choreograph themselves.

Dancers: Kent and Anya
Style: Cha Cha
Choreographer: Jean-Marc Genereux and France
Song: “My First Kiss” by 3OH!3 feat. Ke$ha
Once again Kent kissed another girl on stage. This was a great song for a Cha Cha and Kent totally owned it! He did an amazing job and he had a ton of energy. Sometimes the dance didn’t seem like it was going smoothly, but it wasn’t enough to put Kent down because all-in-all he danced great.

Dancers: Robert and Kathryn
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Stacey Tookey
Song: “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” by Katie Thompson
Combined with lifts and gentle hand movements, the two of them had to tell the story of a war hero. They had a great connection together. The end of the dance took a different and cool turn. Instead of Robert going to war, it was actually Kathryn. Robert really did an outstanding job and brought even Kathryn to tears.

Dancer: Jose
Song: “Giant Squid” by RJD2

Dancers: Adechike and Courtney
Style: Jazz
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Song: “Manteca” by Dizzy Gillespie
This was such a playful and fun performance filled with great dancing. The two of them were flirting through dance across the stage. His only criticism was to let himself go a little more.

Dancer: Lauren
Song: “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin

Dancers: Jose and Comfort
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographer: Marty Kudelka and Dana Wilson
Song: “Try A Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding
Jose used dancing as his pick-up line in this performance filled with funk and swagger. This wasn’t a great routine for Jose, especially since it was Hip Hop, but it was still entertaining and fun to watch.

Dancer: Billy
Song: “Lights Go Down” by Telepathe

Dancer: Kent
Song: “A Song For You” by Elliott Yamin

Dancers: Lauren and Allison
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Song: “Who’s Got the Pain?” by Damn Yankees (1994 original Broadway cast)
The two girls collaborate together to prove they can dance just as good as any guy can. The judges didn’t even have anything to criticize. You could really see Lauren’s strength in the routine. It was filled with energy and she nailed it.

Dancer: Robert
Song: “A Beautiful Mess (From A Raining Jane Sessions)” by Jason Mraz

Dancers: Billy and Ade
Style: Contemporary
Choreographer: Stacey Tookey
Song: “Mad World (Alternate)” by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules
Billy played the role of a homeless man while Ade plays a business man. The two together show how far their lives are from each other only to look each other in the eyes to see they are old friends. This really told an interesting message and Billy did an amazing job filled with emotion. You almost didn’t want it to end.

Dancer: Adechike
Song: “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell

Dancers: Jose and Kent
Style: Broadway
Choreographer: Spencer Liff
Song: “From This Moment On” by Kiss Me Kate (soundtrack)
The two boys fought over a girl in this amusing performance. Both of them did a fantastic job. Kent is really proving he deserves to win this dancing like that. Jose didn’t even look like a Hip Hop dancer up there.

Dancers: Lauren and Adechike
Style: Fox Trot
Choreographer: Jean-Marc Genereux and France
Song: “Fever” by Beyonce
This dance was very seductive and sexy while remaining classy and stylish. The two of them clearly connected very well on the dance floor but technically their frames and footwork was off. If you didn’t know anything about the technicality of the dance, it looked amazing and they did a great job, especially dancing the Fox Trot for the first time.

Dancers: Robert and Billy
Style: Bollywood
Choreographer: Nakul Dev Mahajan
Song: “Ganesh” by Bombay Dreams (soundtrack)
In their Aladdin-style outfits, the boys managed to remain in sync throughout the entire routine with almost unnoticeable slip-ups here and there. This was a nonstop performance filled with an insane amount of athleticism. Props to Billy for doing those moves with his injured knee.

Find out who's going home on So You Think You Can Dance, Thursday at 9/8c on Fox.
