Hell's Kitchen Season 7

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on the season 7 premiere of Hell's Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay is back to scream at and demoralize a new group of aspiring chefs. They walk in the door thinking they know everything there is to know about food and confident they won't break down but good ol' Gordy's here to give them a reality check.

The minute the chefs arrive, they're greeted by reporters and hungry diners. They introduce themselves and come from all over the country and hold down a wide range of jobs. No matter, though. There's just one question they'll need to answer "yes" to: Can you cook? In fact, Gordon seems to have faith in them, as he promises the crowd that this group will complete the first dinner service.  Uhhh, has he been watching his own show? The first dinner service is always nothing short of a train wreck!

As usual, the chefs must prepare a dish to impress Gordon right off the bat. He pulls the first woman out of the crowd, a mother and a cookbook author. He loved her veal scallopini so much that he starts making out with her right there! Just as my jaw hits the floor, he reveals that it's his wife in disguise. Why, Chef Ramsay? Why?

The chefs are split up, red vs. blue, men vs. women. Maria, Benjamin, Mikey, Siobhan, Jay, and Jason manage to impress Gordon. On the other hand, he spits Holli's food right into the garbage and refuses to taste Jamie's food after finding a toothpick in it. Andrew creeps the hell out of everybody, when he says that he just hopes to win Hell's Kitchen so he can buy walk in coolers in order to butcher animals. With four points, the men pull off the first win of the competition.

Time for the prize announcement: the winner of Hell's Kitchen will become a chef at Ramsay's premiere restaurants, the Savoy in London, England. According to Jason, it's the Jay-Z of restaurants. Well, then!

The chefs head upstairs to their new living arrangements to study for dinner service but an alarm is sounded quickly and everyone heads right back downstairs for some quick video tips from Ramsay. All night long, the alarms and lessons kept coming, every 15 minutes or so.

As punishment for losing the first challenge, the women have to cook and serve the men breakfast in bed. Some of them complained but believe me, ladies, it could be worse.

Gordon may have promised his diners that the first service would be complete but right off the bat, it's not looking good. Neither team can seem to get a dish out and when Maria laughs at one of Gordon's quips, he absolutely loses it. He throws her, Jamie, and Fran out for their terrible service and vows to finish without them. Just as it looks like the red team is headed for another loss, the remaining women step up their game and get their dishes out to the diners.

On the other hand, the blue team is an absolute disaster, from trying to serve raw fish to having zero ability to cook something simple like risotto. Benjamin and Salvatore are thrown out, so at least the three from the red team don't have to feel so bad. Actually, I bet it still feels like crap!

The remaining chefs barely finished dinner service and the men just squeaked out a win. Since there's no winner, the women just have to nominate two people for elimination and Stacey and Fran.  Neither was able to handle the pressure of Hell's Kitchen and they're going to seriously need to get it together if they want to stay.  Fran can't even tell Gordon how many  legs a lobster has, while Stacey shows her heart and promises to improve if she stays.  Her words fall of deaf ears and, a bit surprisingly, Stacey is the first chef sent home.
