The City Season 2

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on the season premiere of The City, Whitney made preparations to launch her line of clothing at New York Fashion Week. Friend and former boss Kelly Cutrone, owner of People's Revolution, had a last minute dropout in one of her shows and offered Whitney the open spot. It's a huge opportunity for her, one that can either make or break her. No pressure.

Meanwhile, Olivia tries to work out the problems she's been having with Erin, the publicist, at Elle. When we last left them in a meeting with their boss, Joe Zee, Erin gave him an ultimatum and said, "It's either Olivia or me." Word of advice: Don't give ultimatums unless you're prepared for the outcome either way. Joe didn't take too kindly to Erin strapping on her big girl pants and met with editor-in-chief Robbie Myers to discuss how they were going to handle things. Erin was called into the office and told to suck it up, while Olivia was rewarded with the opportunity to host online blogs for Elle's website, interviewing designers at Fashion Week. The balance is a bit off.

Whitney heads to Mood (a place Project Runway fans know well) to choose fabrics for her remaining designs. After that, it's a stop at her pattern maker where she puts a lot of pressure on them to finish her order as quickly as possible. In a meeting at People's Revolution, the staff advises her to make sure that she puts things in her collection that really represent her as a designer and mean something not to her, not just any garment just to try to come up with the 24 looks she needs for her show. Whitney is once again reminded what a huge make or break opportunity this is for her. She knows, she knows!

Olivia interviews fashion designer extraordinaire Anna Sui at Bryant Park and does a pretty good job. She doesn't have much of a personality on camera, but she asks decent enough questions that makes the video blog work. Joe encourages her to have coffee with Erin and straighten things out so that they can coexist peacefully in the office. It's clear that these two have been forced to sit down together because they plaster on super fake smiles and call a truce, while silently waiting for their golden opportunity to throw the other under a bus. Perhaps literally.

Whitney's show was attended by some pretty important people from Teen Vogue, Bergdorf Goodman, and the like. Minus one moment where a model was nowhere to be found, the show went off beautifully and it seemed that the crowd responded very well to it. (Love seeing People's Rev powerhouse Emily Bungert working the show!) When it's all over, an emotional Kelly sat Whitney to make sure that she really took this moment in and enjoyed it. It's a rarity that we see that softer, nurturing side of her. This could really be the start of something huge for Whitney...
