The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat 2

by Gina Scarpa

Last week, on The Challenge: Fresh Meat 2, Wes saw a golden opportunity to throw his nemesis, Kenny, under the bus by convincing Landon to vote him into Exile against friend and alliance member, Sarah. It was the perfect revenge after Kenny helped pit two of his closest allies, Kelly Anne and Evelyn, against one another on The Ruins. Sarah was a wiz at figuring out the puzzles in Exile (while the same can't be said for her partner, Vinny) but the extremely physical aspect of the challenge took its toll on them and Kenny and his partner, Laurel, were able to cross the finish line first. Sarah spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about going up against a friend in an elimination challenge, what she really thinks of Wes, and how she feels about these new Fresh Meat players.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you feel about this challenge, knowing that you would be paired with people who have never played before?
A. Sarah: I was a little nervous because last time, I got pretty far by just kind of keeping my mouth shut and letting everyone else deal with the politics. Because we were paired with somebody new, and the rest of us were considered the alumni, I had to take a more aggressive approach and play much more politically than I did on the last one. This was like a whole numbers game.  Wes had his crew and Kenny had his crew. I didn't like doing that. I didn't like having to be so politically involved.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Kenny and Wes clearly hate each other, on and off television. You and Kenny were aligned and you're friends in real life. What is your opinion of Wes, after getting to know him and play the game with him?
A. Sarah: I gotta say... after seeing him on these challenges, I don't really like the guy. He's so shady! They have a dailies clip on MTV.com where Wes is being such a politiican. He sat me and Danny and Kenny down and we said we were going to be in the final four. I backed Danny up on a lot of decisions he made in the Ruins so he said he would help me out. The first chance they got it was like stab, stab, stab! I was victim to Wes screwing me over.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did Wes throw you and Kenny against each other in Exile because Kenny threw Evelyn and Kelly Anne against each other during The Ruins 2?
A. Sarah: Absolutely! That's exactly what happened. Wes says it. He says it on the show. He says, "This is personal." Kenny told me, "If it wasn't for my partner, I would've let you win the Exile."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you have to say about the comment that you only picked Vinny as a partner because you thought he was attractive?
A. Sarah: That's absolutely not true whatsoever. Let's talk about his stats. He might not have finished the obstacle course but I knew that I was going to be better at puzzles than most of the guys anyway. I knew I could figure out puzzles. I didn't need anyone for that. I needed a big enough guy to be able to carry me or hold me if we had to do anything physical. If I picked a guy like Luke, there's no chance he's going to be able to hold me up.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: We've never seen you hook up on these shows before. How were you feeling before the episode aired with you and Vinny?
A. Sarah: I'll tell you. In my head before it aired, I was like, "Oh my God, I'm gonna look like such a slut!" I thought people were gonna ask me about it but when I saw it, it was like nothing. They made it look not that bad. To be honest, we were under the covers every single night! It just looked like we cuddled and that was about it!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Katelynn said, on her Facebook page, that you and she had a throwdown on this week's episode but it didn't air. Was there something that we didn't see? What was going on with you two and what's the status of your friendship now?
A. Sarah: There was a lot of personal stuff going on back then. I had recently broken up with my boyfriend, who I was dating while I was on The Real World: Brooklyn. She made some comment like, "At last I know how to keep a man," and I was like, "No, you did not!" I found out she was still talking to my ex-boyfriend. There were personal things going on beyond that. Of course, nobody at home cares about that crap. We're over it. The challenges really bring out the best and the worst in you. You're playing for that much money and I was trying to give her advice and bring her to my side but she didn't want anything to do with it. We left what happened on the challenge behind and we're still friends.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: These Fresh Meat players seem to just be doing whatever they want and not listening to their partners when it comes to voting and strategy. What did you think about the way they were playing?
A. Sarah: Oh my God! I was so pissed off about that! Had the Fresh Meat kids actually gone along with what their partners said, it could've been a much different story. Theresa didn't want to vote for Wes so she threw away her vote. It was like, "Oh my gosh!" I wish they would've seen past that. A throwaway vote is one vote against me!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: I guess it's safe to say you're rooting for Kenny and hoping he gets revenge on Wes by sending him home.
A. Sarah: Of course! Abso-freakin-lutely! I know Wes's partner. I don't know what happens after I left. After going to Exile, and hearing from Pete and Jillian what Exile is like, I know that Mandi won't be able to do it. I'm not a weak girl by any means. I like to think I carry my weight. I was dying in that Exile! Parts of it were harder than the final challenge in Thailand. I know that Mandi isn't going to be able to do that. I hope Kenny sends him to Exile and he'll go home immediately. You're only as strong as your girl.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are you up to now? Would you want to do another challenge?
A. Sarah: I would love, love, love to do another challenge. I need to go back! For now, I moved near the ocean and I'm hanging out at the beach. I'm going to D.C. at the end of this week to speak at an Amnesty event. Things have been wonderful. I've been really, really working out for the next challenge! My brother is a trainer and I am not messing around. I'm gonna kick some ass! I hope I get to do a challenge that is like every man for themselves, where I don't have to worry about a team because that sucks. I don't wanna worry about a partner who can't perform at my level! It's about time I do something that's mano a mano.
