The Amazing Race 16

This week's episode of The Amazing Race leaves France and heads to the island of Mahe. Mahe is one of 115 islands that make up the Republic of Seychelles; an archipelago nation that is located east of Africa's mainland in the Indian Ocean. Even though Michael and Louie have taken their third leg in a row, all six teams will leave on the same flight.

Once the teams arrive in Mahe, they must hurry off the plane and make their way to the first clue. As it turns out, the teams are taking helicopters from Mahe to La Digue; a remote paradise that will host the detour and will be the pit stop. First to board a helicopter are Brent and Caite followed by Steve and Allie and then Dan and Jordan.

The detour for this leg has the teams choosing between Ox Trot and Turtle Toddle. Turtle Toddle involves coaxing a 100 year old turtle to the finish line using a banana as its incentive. After the turtle has complied, each team member will select a giant bunch of bananas to walk to the local fruit market. Ox Trot consists of loading a pile of coconuts into a cart that will eventually be hooked up to an ox and then taken to the fruit market. But it is the team members that will have to drive the ox towards their destination!

Brent and Caite are first and choose Ox Trot; all but Steve and Allie and Carol and Brandy go with the ox option. Prodding the turtle was easy enough for Steve and Allie, but Carol and Brandy eventually give up and join the others in the chore of loading a massive pile of coconuts.

Steve and Allie's speed with the detour put them in first and sent them on their way to the roadblock; boats were waiting for the teams nearby and are taking the teams for an underwater treasure hunt. As soon as the father and daughter made their way onto the boat, Allie realized they left their packs behind. Steve convinced Allie that they had all they needed and that going back would be detrimental to their success.

Meanwhile, back on land, Brent and Caite slowly made their way to the fruit market only to learn they didn't have all of the coconuts required to complete the detour. It was at this point that Brent broke down and actually declared that he quit! But before you know it, the two models were at the mercy of the ox and heading back for the lone coconut. Jet and Cord and Carol and Brandy would both find that they too needed to go all the back for a single coconut. And as a result, Louie and Michael were back in the top three after falling far behind.

Steve volunteered to "take a deep breath" for the roadblock and was first to dive into the waters looking for a group of seven bottles, each one containing a map-like puzzle that would lead them to the pit stop. Steve's strong swimming skills came in handy as he quickly retrieved the bottle and headed back towards land. Dan and Jordan held on strong to their second place status and Louie and Michael ended up working with Brent and Caite to keep their third and fourth places.

But it was Steve and Allie who figured out how to make it to the pit stop the quickest thus taking this week's leg.

Jet and Cord were just about to finish in fifth at the pit stop when they were informed that they needed the bottle to be brought onto land in order to finish the leg. With no time to spare, the cowboys double-timed it back to the boat that was a good 300 yards out in the water. After a strong swim and valiant effort, Brandy and Carol were spotted making their way back to shore. This unfortunate turn of events would have eliminated Jet and Cord, but as it happened to be, this leg was a non-elimination event!

So Jet and Cord get to play another round, but they will have to face a speed bump during the next leg. Until then, all six teams have a lot to smile about; La Digue appears to be one of the most beautiful places under the sun and there seems to be plenty of daylight left to enjoy!
