Taking The Stage Season Two

By Lindsay Strouse

The blossoming and breaking romances on Taking The Stage continue right where we left them with Adam’s jealousy over Emily’s new relationship with Ian. Anna and Carlton continue to grow closer to each other, and Emily Silber isn’t to be seen with Tyler anywhere (hm, could this be a hint?).

Adam is upset that he missed his chance with Emily. He isn’t himself around Ian and Emily anymore and wants to figure out a way to win her back…Last time I checked, he never “had” her.

Big news is abuzz in the school, with a visit from big-time producer Columbus Short visiting SCPA for a question and answer. Tyler wants to find a way to perform for him and hopefully get his big break.

Anna helps Carlton study for math in the library. I guess it’s a good thing they’re mostly there to see each other because I don’t know if either one of them has a future in math. Anna has an extra ticket for in Ingrid Michaelson concert that Mia Curruthers (SCPA graduate) is opening for. She invites Carlton to go with her, Emily and Ian. That sounds a lot like the double date Carlton mentioned at Spoken Word last week.

As Anna and Emily get ready for the concert, they discuss their current love dilemmas that never seem to go away. Anna is starting to like Carlton more and more and Emily is worried about the amount of girls that are interested in Ian. The more I watch the show, the more I want Anna to get together with Carlton and Emily to finally move on from Adam. Or should I say, for Adam to move on from Emily.

Ian begins to notice Adam acting differently around him and brings it up to Emily. At this point, it seems as though Adam simply wants what he can’t have. There’s no doubt he’s had feelings for Emily for awhile now, but why choose this moment in time to make trouble over it?

Once the show starts, Adam can keep his eyes off Emily and Ian. Despite his claim that he is there to support Mia, I think he has some ulterior motives in mind. Adam can’t take the sight of Emily and Ian’s flirtation and leaves the concert. Carlton reminds him that Ian and Emily are really happy together and he’s just acting out of the fact he missed his chance. If you ask me, it’s as simple as this: when you’re young and in the lunchroom with your orange, you’re content. But as soon as you see little Billy eating a big shiny apple, you wish you packed that instead.

The next day Adam takes Emily aside and says he doesn’t want her to get hurt by being with Ian. He hears Ian is a player and that they just don’t match with each other. He makes sure to add in there is someone better out there for her. When Emily asks who that person may be, Adam shies away once again and says, “I don’t know. But there’s someone better for you than Ian.”

Later on, Tyler prepares for his step team performance for executive producer of Stomp the Yard 2, Columbus Short. Short first has a Q and A with the students about success. He says it’s important to realize that it takes ten years before you can make something of yourself. One shouldn’t seek fame; he or she should seek to be at the top of his or her game. Tyler makes sure to be at the top of his game during his step performance for Short. It pays off and he gets a call the next day to audition for Stomp the Yard 2.

Will Tyler catch his big break? Find out next Thursday when Taking the Stage returns at 11:30 ET on MTV.
