Celebrity Rehab 3

By Jackie Helm

This week on the Season Finale of Celebrity Rehab 3; it was graduation time!  The comfort zone of sobriety at the rehab center will now be tested in the discomfort of real life.  The patients will also make the choice of going home or continuing their rehabilitation at a Sober House.  It’s not over yet folks and I’ll be covering the “Sober House” which airs Thursdays on Vh1!

Dr. Drew performed a miniature home make-over for Mackenzie Phillips.  Although she’s been clean for several months, her house was a nasty mess.  Not only was her home un-kept, but blood splatters from years of intravenous drug use adorned her ceilings.  She described the multitude of needles that used to fill her desk area.  Despite numerous attempts she could not remove the blood.  It was another Celebrity Rehab tear jerking moment when Dr. Drew unveiled her new, remodeled bedroom and bathroom.

Last week, after Kari Ann was reprimanded for baring her boobs and letting Mike draw a bikini on her, she got mad and left rehab.  Heidi and Dr. Drew called her at home where she seemed to be chillin’.  She swore she wouldn’t “use” and refused to come back to rehab.  However, shortly after the convo, she did return.  She said that although she didn’t want to get high, she was afraid she was putting herself in a position to be triggered to get high.  She threw away all of her pipes and paraphernalia at home and headed back to the Pasadena Rehabilitation Center.

The Graduation ceremony was held in a mosque of a graveyard.  Dandy idea Dr. Drew!  He said that he wanted the event to be less of a party and more of a somber warning.  He felt that although they completed rehab, he didn’t feel that every patient was taking the process as serious as they should.  He stated that to truly stay clean you have to embrace recovery and continuously admit to being an addict and commit to being sober.

The patients dressed up in their Sunday best and sat in a row with the rehab techs to the side.  Each grad’ stood before their peers to give a little speech and then the others gave motivating comments for one another (well, at least some of them were motivating).

Kari Ann thanked Dr. Drew for knocking on her door (and physically bringing her to rehab).  She also thanked the patients for putting up with her.  Mindy admitted to being angry with Kari Ann at first, but then followed up with love and support.

Mike said that rehab saved his life.  Tom stood and begged Mike to stay sober as he reflected back to their friends who were dead   At Heidi’s turn she admitted that she was happy to enter rehab after secluding herself in her bird world.  Tom stood and told her he cared about her and apologized for their turbulent past.

Mindy was thankful for what rehab taught her and Drew named her the angel of the group.  Joey said that he realized he had many dreams the he wouldn’t accomplish if he was a drug addict.  During Mackenzie’s speech, Dr. Drew complimented her for being such a strong support for the entire crew.

During Tom’s moment to speak, Heidi’s disrespect began with her attitude and rolled her eyes.  Tom stood and said that he thinks that he can start over and that he wants to be a good father.  Mindy gave him kudos and encouragement to return to stardom.  Dennis told Tom that he went from Hollywood to Holly-weird and also encouraged Tom to return to acting.  Tom smiled as Heidi stood, not knowing that she was about to say that he would turn any woman gay.  Heidi said that she felt so good; however Tom was a loser.  She ended with…”but there is hope, and that is going really easy on you”.  Wow Heidi…REALLY?  Was the necessary?  Bob the rehab tech spoke on behalf of Tom and encouraged him to not be a victim of what people (such as Heidi) say about him.  He shared that even after years of sobriety there are people who still hate him and he probably deserves it.  But he has to continue on with putting away the past and staying clean for the future.

Lisa spoke and said that rehab made her aware of her addiction and has protected her from falling as low as the other patients once had (with all due respect).  Dennis stood up and was straight up.  He admitted to being an alcoholic but still wasn’t sure if he will never drink again.  Mindy thanked Dennis for his show of affection when she was taken off in an ambulance when she had her seizure.  Dr. Drew told Rodman that he is a part of American History and he hopes that he doesn’t squander that fact.

Dr. Drew asked the patients to reflect on whether they were truly sober and strong enough to go home or would they need to continue treatment at the Sober House.  Mindy McCready is going to go home to her 3 year old son.  Mackenzie Phillips thinks she will be cool and she is going home.  Joey Stovar is going home to assist his pregnant girlfriend in a move and then he will go on to a Sober House.  Lisa D’Amato decided to “live soberly” and continue with a 12 step program at Alcohol Anonymous.

The crew going on to the Sober House will be Mike Starr, Kari Ann Peniche, Heidi Fleiss, Tom Sizemore and Dennis Rodman   Dennis fiddled with the idea the longest.  He said he’s got kids to take care of and things to do but he knows that he is not 100% clean and sober.  Dr. Drew congratulated the patients and their family and friends entered the room to celebrate their graduation.

Wow, what a crazy journey in the short time of 21 days!  Does anyone wonder what happened to Tom Sizemore’s girlfriend Monroe?  Join me next week as we continue the sober journey with the former addicts we’ve grown to love in the “Sober House”.  See you next week!
