American Idol Season 9

by Gina Scarpa

I'm going to start with this. Going in to tonight's American Idol results show, my predictions as to who will go home are: Michelle, Lacey, Adam, and Alex. I was only 25% correct. I have no future as a fortune teller.

Things kick off with a cheeseball rendition of "I Gotta Feeling" where Alex Lambert continues to look scared out of his mind every time he takes the stage and Crystal plays ball by step touching and posing sexily for the cameras. Dear Idol, please don't take an awesome hip hop song and give it to a group of 20 people, in which 85% of them aren't hip hop at all.

Moving on to the first batch of results. Tim is safe (I'm wrong... and surprised), Big Mike is safe, and Casey is safe, which leaves Todrick and John. Todrick was actually the second person Ryan spoke to but he made him stand there while he delivered good news to Mike and Casey. Then, Ryan turns around and eliminates John. Idol is cold sometimes, though I bet Purple Haze is in fact glad to have their lead singer back.

As for the rest of the guys, Lee is safe, and so are Aaron and Alex. When it comes down to Andrew and Jermaine, I say out loud, "There's no way Andrew can go home... right???" Right. He's safe, Jermaine is outta here.

Danny Gokey returns to Idol to perform his new country song. He'll be headed out on the road with Sugarland, which is great for him. Let me say this. Danny... was... PUMPED to be back on Idol. He just rambled on and on after his performance about how excited he was and you gotta love him. The guy is full of passion for what he does and maybe some of this season's contestant should take notice. So many people on that stage who are just trying to get by and not really competing or connecting with their songs.

Time for Seacrest to deliver some results to the ladies. Lilly is safe, Paige is safe, Katie is safe, leaving Michelle and Didi standing together. I'm happy that Didi managed to survivor and Michelle becomes my one and only correct prediction. Why she ever went from singing Alicia Keys to Creed is beyond me.

Katelyn, Crystal, and Siobhan are all safe. No surprise. Lacey and Haeley are brought to the middle of the stage and as soon as I see Haeley, I'm reminded of that screeching performance of "The Climb" and realize I made the wrong prediction. Yes, Haeley, it's the end of the road for you. Lacey wasn't even all that bad and I kind of liked her Sixpence None the Richer performance last night. I'm glad she lives to see another week.

Question: Why does Idol have eliminated contestants sing the very song that got them booted? If it were me, I wouldn't want to sing it again. Ever.
