Jason and Molly Mesnick

by Gina Scarpa

Monday night, ABC will show Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney do something that no other couple in the history of The Bachelor has done: walk down the aisle. Their guest list included Trista and Ryan Sutter, Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski, Charlie O'Connell and Sarah Brice, DeAnna Pappas, Kiptyn Locke, Jesse Csincsak, and more. Recording artists Gavin Degraw and Jason Castro performed for the happily couple, whose beautiful ceremony takes place in Palos Verdes, California. Today, Jason and Molly spoke to RealityWanted and reporters in a press conference call about their journey as a couple and their televised wedding, airing Monday on ABC.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did the two of you stay focused after The Bachelor and make your relationship work?
A. Molly: I think a lot of it was the fact that we stayed away from Hollywood and went right back into our normal lives. We just focused on being a normal couple. It wasn't about keeping our face out there. He had Ty and we wanted to integrate
A. Jason: She's right because after Jesse and DeAnna split up, they said one of the hardest things was to be out in public in Los Angeles. We could never do that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Jason, you really seemed to be there for love - not to be a tv star or get your fifteen minutes of fame. Do think that your focus and intentions are what made things work between you and Molly?
A. Jason: I think so! You could see throughout the show everybody goes on tv for different reasons. Part of it is definitely the experience. If you look at people on the show recently, people have gone off and done things. Jake has gone off and done Dancing With The Stars and more power to him. Molly and I have just focused on getting back to Seattle. Molly loves going to her day job. I started a non profit, Project Parachute. Being here with Ty is really what we want to be doing.

Q. You are the second couple in Bachelor/Bachelorette history to walk down the aisle. Why do you think that you're only the second couple to do that?
A. Molly: I think that the show definitely brings people together. I do think that the period after the show is done filming is crucial for your relationship. You're back in the real world, being normal people, and seeing what their day to day life is back.
A. Jason: I think it's possible. The probability is not huge but if you relate that to real life... most people have dated more than 20 people to find one partner.

Q. Did the rain put a damper on your wedding day?
A. Molly: I loved every minute of the rain. It started to rain right when I was saying my vows and we just looked at each other and laughed.

Q. How did you know that the dress that you picked was the dress for you?
A. Molly: Monique Lhuillier did the dress. I met with her and tried on a bunch of different styles. I knew I wanted that mermaid style of dress but I needed to try on that other style to get a feel. Once we tried on that style that I wanted, we looked at each other and I said, "Yes!"

Q. How much freedom did you have in terms of the wedding?
A. Molly: I had 100% control over every detail that had to do the wedding. I picked the colors, the dresses, the jewelry, how the tables would look... Jason and I collaborated together.

Q. There were some celebrities at your wedding. Did you know them all?
A. Molly: Yes, we did. There were stories saying ABC was telling us who to invite, that was not the case at all.

Q. Do you have honeymoon plans?
A. Molly: Oh yes, big honeymoon plans! We're headed to South Africa in a week!
A. Jason: We're going to be there for two weeks. We want something that's part relaxing, part really fun and adventurous. We always wanted to go on a safari so we're going to see some wildlife.

Q. Have any other couples from The Bachelor or Bachelorette approached you about whether or not they should televise their wedding?
A. Molly: We've been talking to Jillian and Ed quite a bit about it. We had an incredible experience doing it. When we were thinking about doing it, we reached out to Ryan and Trista and they had nothing but wonderful things to say. It depends on the people but we had a really great experience.
