The Biggest Loser 9: Episode 6 Recap

Last time on The Biggest Loser, the Yellow and Blue teams came back after being at home for 30 days to weigh-in for their chance to get back in the game. Though Cherita and Victoria lost a ton of weight, Sunshine and O'Neal lost more, joining the rest of the contestants on the ranch. After the weigh-in, John fell below the yellow line, automatically eliminating him from the competition.

Since NBC is putting The Biggest Loser on hiatus for three weeks for Olympics coverage, what better than to make this episode Olympic themed? Since this was pre-taped and Vancouver probably wasn't ready for them, so they packed up and headed to the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs.

Moving wasn't the only twist this week, though: now everyone is competing for themselves, as an individual. Of course, Melissa is upset because she thinks they're going to lose the support that they get with teams, though I think we all know she's pissed because now the target on her back has increased tenfold.

But it gets even better! Not one, but two people are going home, the lowest percentage of weight lost and one of the next two lowest percentage of weight lost. Now you can see the fire and the fear in Melissa's eyes, she knows she has to work this week. And I'm torn, because I love how purely dramatic she is, so I want her to stick around, but I want her to leave, too.

But what's a better way to pick up the mood than to bring in a Paralympian to share her inspiring story. Cue fireworks, people chanting "U.S.A.!," the torch getting lie, it almost made us forget that people were going home. Almost. The contestants headed to the athletes' cafeteria to see what they eat on a daily basis, sometimes as little as 1,600 calories a day, or as much as 8,000.

Of course, while they're there, they have to face temptation. It's desserts galore and sugary goodness is everywhere. Everywhere! But, it turns into one giant product promotion when Bob whips out a stick of Extra sugar-free gum to curb her appetite. Sorry, Bob, that wouldn't fly with me, but it does with Stephanie!

Now Koli is depressed because John isn't there anymore and he can't get him out of his head. Apparently Koli doesn't think he has anyone, while John had a big family and the thought to him was disturbing. But, Bob comes out of nowhere to pick him up off his feet and remind him just how great of a guy he really is.

Finally, the contestants hit the gym, where they get the chance to work out with two Olympians. The two athletes showed everyone some new, crazy exercises that looked insanely hard. But they were still rockin' them out, so props to them, especially since they weren't in sunny LA anymore!

Just when I thought the Olympics branding was done, J.R. Celski (the short track speed skater who sliced his leg down to the bone with his blade) came out and introduced the contestants to their next challenge: they would have to glide across a slide board 500 times. It was kind of mean, because people were falling left and right and making all those twisted, embarrassing faces.

It was all Melissa, all the way. She was so close to winning when, all of a sudden, she falls, too, and ends up in second place behind Sam. Sunshine takes third and O'Neal freaks out, happy that his daughter did so well in the competition. Maybe it's a pride complex?

The contestants then head out to one of the training center's gardens for yet another Olympian and yet another challenge (and, of course, more Olympics promo time). This time, Ali tells the contestants they'll be aiming laser guns at targets of each other. Some of you might think that shooting laser guns isn't exactly an Olympic sport, though. Well, here's the catch: the challenge is a biathlon and each shot required the contestants to make a lap around the garden. Once someone's target was hit 5 times, they'd be out; last one standing got immunity.

Sunshine (third place in the last challenge) got to hit one target before the challenge even started, and she chose Sam. Melissa got to hit two targets, since she came in second; she also hit Sam. So Sam, already down to two out of five targets, gets to pick three to hit. He takes two from Melissa and one from Sunshine, bringing them down to three and four. Everyone goes after Sam, Melissa and Sunshine first, so they dropped like flies. Soon enough, it was Ashley, the pink sweetheart, O'Neal, the big ball of sunshine (no pun intended!) and Darrell. Ashley was out next, leaving the two men with knee problems in the house. It was kind of tough watching them power through it, but they did and O'Neal sealed the deal by hitting Darrell's last target.

Soon enough, everyone's headed back to the ranch for their last-chance workout, and no one wants to be anywhere near the yellow line because of the double elimination. O'Neal makes a breakthrough in the gym and is able to do squats on a Bose ball, which just goes to show how hard of a worker he is. I was skeptical about him and Sunshine coming back to the ranch, but now I can see how great of an addition they made.

The weigh-in results were as follows:

O'Neal: -8 (-2.40%) [immune]
Sam: -12 (-3.87%)
Miggy: -7 (-3.40%)
Daris: -9 (-3.18%)
Lance: -9 (-2.87%)
Koli: -9 (-2.69%)
Andrea: -7 (-2.67%)
Michael: -11 (-2.48%)
Sunshine: -6 (-2.45%)
Ashley: -6 (-1.89%)
Stephanie: -4 (-1.78%)
Sherry: -3 (-1.67%)
Cheryl: -3 (-1.55%)
Darrell: -5 (-1.46%)
Melissa: +1

And, just like that, karma came back to bite Melissa and bite her hard. That pound that she loved to gain so much came back to haunt her as she exited the ranch. However, before she left, she begged everyone to let Lance stay long enough to get under 250 pounds. You mean she was thinking about someone else for once? Shocking! Back home, Melissa has lost a total of 58 pounds and is looking really good. Her son even thinks she's hot! Weird, but still a compliment.

Now it's down to Cheryl and Darrell. Let's be honest, Darrell hasn't done anything, while Cheryl has been nothing but the lovable mother, it's no secret I'd rather Darrell go home. However, instead of a vote, it's another twist! The two have to compete in their own face-off challenge where the winner stays and the loser goes home. As the episode is ending (and I'm panicking because we're clearly not going to see the winner), Cheryl and Darrell are left balancing Olympic torch stems on their heads.

Be sure to tune in when the Biggest Loser returns to NBC on Tuesday, March 2 at 8/7c!
