In the first few minutes of this week’s Shear Genius 3, Giacomo bows out as he says he has three babies at home and needs to be with them. Faatemah, who seems always willing to speak her mind, thinks Giacomo is taking the easy way out and it’s a cheap excuse.
For the Short Cut Challenge, judge Kim Vo, a celebrity colorist, brings out several blonde models and challenges the stylists to change these Los Angeles “blonde-arexics” into natural, healthy blondes. Adee is instantly worried, as he has had a color assistant for over seven years now. He ends up drawing first, and is confused on whether he should pick the gal with the best hair to cut or the one he is the most attracted to. In the end, he picks the one he is more attracted to, to Janine’s chagrin, as she says she “would have never picked her in a million years, she has 900 pounds of hair.”
Brig notices a model with completely melted, fried blonde hair and tries a little reverse psychology since she has the last number. Matthew is second to last, and she asks him to save the fried model for her. He takes the bait and picks the model with the melted hair.
For the most part, the models will not let the stylists do much with their hair and everyone is struggling. Kim Vu is giving them grief for not making enough of a change. Amy struggles, her model just will not budge on letting her change anything and Adee suggests she lie to her.
Brian gets bleach in his models eye, which sets him back and he ends up not finishing the challenge.
The bottom three are Adee with a “too dated” look; April with “not enough change” and Brian for “bleach in the eye and not finishing”. The top three are Matthew, Janine and Jon. Matthew takes the win by transforming his fried, melted haired model into a gorgeous red head.
For the elimination challenge, the group meets at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Dakota Restaurant is rolling out a new menu and to celebrate the executive chef Jason Johnston has created several dishes for opening night. The stylists challenge is to be inspired by an individual assigned dish, and create a hairstyle from this inspiration for one of the servers of the restaurant.
Here are the dishes:
Brian-Chocolate Mousse
April-Heirloom Tomato Salad
Jon-Seared Scallops
Brig-Tiramisu
Amy-Dakota Burger
Janine-Beet Salad
Adee- Steak Tartare
Matthew-Yellowtail Hamachi
Arzo-Tuna Tataki
Faatemah-Orange Flan Trio
Janine has immunity in the challenge and decides to take a bigger risk because of it. Some of the stylists decide to go more glamorous while others go Avant Garde, and still others go more literal.
In the end, Matthew, Jon and Brian are the top three with Jon taking this win and gaining immunity for next week
The bottom three are Brig, Amy and Arzo. Arzo ends up being eliminated.
